Crystal Palace fans react to signing of Lucas Perri

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace have officially announced the signing of Sao Paulo’s Lucas Perri on loan for the remainder of the season – the Brazilian becomes the Eagles’ first piece of January business and, contrary to the opinions of most, it is a far more important addition than a striker.

Injuries to Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey have left Roy Hodgson short of options between the sticks and it is no surprise that this deal has finally gone through now after the stinker of a performance put in against Liverpool by third choice keeper – and Palace legend – Julian Speroni.

The 39-year-old didn’t look match fit and gifted Mohamed Salah his second of the game as he misjudged a James Milner cross, meaning much of Palace’s hard work was undone.

Which player with “no potential” has just been named Crystal Palace’s worst ever January signing? Find out in the video above…

Keeping the ball out of your net clearly important, but so is putting it away in your opponents’ – goals have been a commodity at SE25 this season and many Palace fans surely feel that an upgrade on the current crop of strikers is desperately needed.

A deal for early January target Dominic Solanke fell through, with the Englishman opting for a switch to Bournemouth instead and Palace fans have more or less been left in the dark since.

The signing of 21-year-old Perri, though, should at least come as a relief to those who felt the club were just staring out the transfer window as it slowly closes.

West Ham fans react as Hammers will not sign Gomez this month

[ad_pod ]

Loads of West Ham fans have been reacting to a big update on a possible striker signing, as reports claim they will not move for Maxi Gomez this month.

According to The Evening Standard, West Ham’s £43.5m swoop for Gomez will definitely not happen on deadline day.

The report claims Celta Vigo will not release the striker this month because they are in a relegation battle.

The Spanish outfit currently sit 18th in La Liga, two points adrift of safety, and Gomez is pretty much their only source of goals.

Look away Arsenal fans! American Soccer Fan is back to troll more fans at the London Stadium in the video below…

This is bad news for the Hammers though, who have gone off the boil in recent weeks after a terrific run of form before Christmas, and desperately need a clinical goalscorer.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side could be without Marko Arnautovic for at least a couple of weeks after the striker injured his foot during the defeat at Wolves, and there are still question marks over how committed the Austrian international will be even once he is fit.

You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below, where fans are fuming at this transfer update…

Mohamed Diame is running out of time at Newcastle

[ad_pod ]Newcastle have put in some stellar performances in recent weeks, not least a 2-1 win over champions Manchester City, and were unlucky not to get a point from their clash with Tottenham. One key factor in their fantastic showings has been Sean Longstaff, who has excelled as a holding-midfielder.

On the chalkboard

Rafa Benitez seems to have found his winning formula at St James’ Park – playing with a back-five and two central midfielders, the Magpies have plenty of bodies between their opponents and the goal but can spring a counter through their wide-men, while Longstaff and Isaac Hayden sit.

The latter was keen on a move away last month but is striking up a solid, young partnership with the former, who has broken through to the first team in recent months, making just his third Premier League start against City.

Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the duo in his post-match interview, saying that his side “could not deal” with them. For a 21-year-old thrown in at the deep end, it surely doesn’t get much better. Longstaff’s emergence though, could be terminal to Mohamed Diame’s Magpies career.

Diame down and out

The Senegalese has made 21 league appearances for Newcastle this season but, with Miguel Almiron set to come in and the aforementioned midfield duo, plus Ki Sung-Yueng and Jonjo Shelvey to compete with for a spot at the base of midfield, he surely won’t make too many more this campaign.

The 31-year-old joined from Hull in 2016 and has chalked up eight goals and three assists in all competitions since, but is yet to contribute this season.

Despite his versatility – the number 10 is capable of playing deep or further upfield – there seems to be no room for him, particularly now that Longstaff has stamped his authority on the starting XI.

The only people more shocked by Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Man City than City fans were the Magpies fans themsleves! Check out their brilliant reactions in the video below…

The Chalkboard: How Tottenham’s injury crisis could help them vs Dortmund

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham welcome Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund to Wembley on Wednesday, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are perfectly poised to ruffle a few feathers.

On the chalkboard

“It’s the history of Tottenham,” said Giorgio Chiellini shortly after his Juventus side broke north London hearts in the Champions League at Wembley last season.

“They always created many chances to score so much, but at the end they miss always something to arrive at the end.”

12 months later, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been forced to adapt after injuries to multiple key players, and they are now one of Europe’s most mentally strong teams.

Dortmund meanwhile have drawn their last three games in normal time (one was a cup fixture that they lost on penalties), and Spurs’ new-found mentality could well be the difference in this epic Champions League showdown.

Mentality is key, just ask Real Madrid!

Confidence and form is everything in a Champions League knockout fixture, where a couple of quick goals can decide the tie in a matter of moments, and Tottenham couldn’t have asked for better timing on this one, of course barring a date that would allow Dele Alli and Harry Kane to take part.

The Lilywhites have won their last four league fixtures, all without Kane and three of those without Alli, and if not for Heung-min Son’s last-gasp goal against Leicester all of those games would have been decided by just one goal.

Pochettino’s side have the quality to win while playing beautiful football, but the injury crisis may actually have improved their chances in the Champions League, where the killer mentality they have now developed can go an awful long way.

In fact, one could argue what has separated Real Madrid from the rest of the contenders in recent years is their sheer belief that they will win every game they play.

While Dortmund were blowing a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Hoffenheim this weekend, Spurs were battling it out for another deserved three points, and Chiellini’s comments on the “history of Tottenham” are well and truly just that – history.

West Ham fans laugh off Man City’s reported Rice interest

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun, West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is a summer target for Premier League champions Manchester City.

The report has claimed that City could expect to pay as much as £70m for the 20-year-old, who has been in impressive form for the Hammers this season.

Rice recently signed a new long-term contract with West Ham, meaning that he is contracted to the capital outfit until the summer of 2024.

As a result, the Hammers are in a very, very strong position to negotiate, should a huge bid arrive in this summer’s transfer window.

The West Ham fans have been on social media reacting to the transfer report.

And it would be fair to say that the supporters are absolutely desperate for their club to keep hold of the 6ft 1in midfielder.

Many even feel that £70m would not be enough to sign the London-born youngster.

Everton fans want Romelu Lukaku back at Goodison Park

[ad_pod ]

Everton fans have called on their club’s director of football Marcel Brands to attempt to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United in this summer’s transfer window.

Lukaku managed 87 goals in 166 appearances for Everton between 2013 and 2017 before moving to United ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The Belgium international struck 27 goals in all competitions for United last term, but has netted just nine this season.

Marcus Rashford has been preferred in the centre-forward position since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as head coach in December.

As a result, Lukaku has mainly been restricted to a bit-part role.

The 25-year-old did start his team’s 2-0 win over Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday, though, and put in a decent-enough performance.

Rashford’s excellent form could well end Lukaku’s United career, however, and a number of Everton fans have called on their club to re-sign the powerful forward.

Marko Arnautovic is too good for West Ham but he really must prove it

West Ham’s main man Marko Arnautovic has been linked with a move away from the club for months, but he now needs to knuckle down and prove he’s worth being snapped up.

The Austrian striker’s brother pleaded with the club to let him leave in a statement in January, but his ‘dream move’ to an unnamed Chinese club fell through when a £35m bid was rejected. Why he wanted to go to China is beyond us all but since that deal didn’t materialise, the talented frontman should perform like everyone knows he can to earn a move to a club which is a step up from West Ham.

Why he’d even want to leave The London Stadium in January is another question that’s hard to answer. They’re playing some great football at the moment and are looking capable of mounting a challenge for a European spot over the next year or so. However, if he really does want to leave, then he needs to get his head back into playing for the Hammers until the end of the season.

There’s no questioning his quality, it’s there, but his attitude is something that sometimes lets him down, and that’s the difference between a good player and a world-class player – mentality. This is a test of character for the 29-year-old and could mean him signing for a Chinese club to rot away into obscurity or being picked up by a club already playing European football.

The opportunity to build up his goal tally is there. He’s now playing alongside players like Samir Nasri, Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson who will be able to set him up for fun against most opposition. West Ham are creating chances against the best sides in the league too and he could be finishing those as their main man up top.

If Arnautovic would lift his head up and realise what an opportunity he has in front of him, he could be playing European football next season, whether that be with West Ham or not. Surely that would be more of a ‘dream move’ than China?

Where do you think Marko Arnautovic will be playing his football next season?

Leeds fans applaud Tyler Roberts’ performance

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United blew the Championship title race wide open with a 4-0 hammering of fellow promotion chasers West Brom at Elland Road on Friday night.

The Whites got off to a flying start when 33-year-old Pablo Hernandez found the top corner from distance within 20 seconds of kick-off. A Patrick Bamford brace and a late Ezgjan Alioski tap in rounded off the scoring and secured an emphatic victory for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Not only was the win convincing, but it was also timely. Having slipped up against QPR in midweek, it was vital that Leeds got back on track quickly.

One player who didn’t get on the scoresheet but stood out nonetheless was Tyler Roberts. The 20-year-old produced a fine performance against his former club. The attacker was creative, disciplined and worked relentlessly hard before leaving the field to a standing ovation when he was substituted off with two assists to his name.

After the final whistle, many Leeds fans took to Twitter to congratulate Roberts on his fine display…

Liverpool fans accuse Guardiola of being terrified after UCL prediction

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have accused Pep Guardiola of being overcome by fear after he revealed he’ll be supporting Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Reds fans have ripped into the Spaniard, who’s not the most popular figure on Merseyside at the moment, and proclaimed he’s afraid, scared and even terrified of their team having pledged his Bayern allegiance ahead of the Allianz Arena battle.

Kopites will undoubtedly feel confident if they can pick up a win in the German capital and end up drawing the Citizens in the next round, the quarter-finals. Perhaps in contrast to the opposite camp and their manager.

Despite trailing them in the Premier League title race, they were the ones to send Guardiola’s men packing in the Champions League last season and will be keen to relive that in this year’s competition.

However, it’s more than likely that rather than having sleepless nights over Jurgen Klopp’s boys, Guardiola just wants his former club to do well having enjoyed his three years and three Bundesliga titles, two domestic cup trophies, a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in Munich.

But this hasn’t stopped some Liverpool supporters from getting roused by the comments and tearing into the 48-year-old. Check out some of their best reactions below…

Man United fans on Twitter split over reassuring Paul Pogba claim

[ad_pod ]

Divided Manchester United fans on Twitter have been split by the latest developments involving ex-Old Trafford outcast Paul Pogba.

The France international has told interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he intends to stay at the club after lengthy discussions, just months after trying to force a move away from Manchester during the reign of Jose Mourinho, per The Sun.

Pogba’s atrocious form, clear lack of effort and wanting to play for the badge summed up the downfall of the Portuguese manager’s reign as he had well and truly lost the dressing room, the fans and really, the whole club.

Fast forward just a couple of months and the 2018 World Cup-winner is loving life again in red, having turned his fortunes around drastically upon the installation of Solskjaer as boss until the end of the season.

Since the former United striker took over, the ex-Juventus star has seven goals and six assists in the Premier League, but some supporters are still not convinced, even after this latest seemingly-positive news.

They’ve called him such names as a “snake” and “minnow” and reminded the 25-year-old that no one player is bigger than the club, in contrast to other Red Devils who’ve leapt to his defence with bold statements of the “he’ll retire here” like.
