Everton fans fume as Melissa Reddy says Wilfried Zaha can do better than the Toffees

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Everton fans have taken to Twitter in fury after Melissa Reddy said that she thinks Wilfried Zaha should aim higher than a move to Goodison Park.

Whilst that opinion naturally won’t have gone down well anyway, Reddy’s comments seem to have triggered the Everton supporters on Twitter even more due to the fact that she is believed to be a Liverpool fan, and is a contributor to a lot of Reds-related content.

Reddy stated that she feels the Crystal Palace forward should do what Luis Suarez did when holding back on pushing through a move to Arsenal, and instead getting a much better switch to Barcelona the following summer.

Zaha handed in a transfer request a day before the deadline in a bid to force through a move to the Toffees, although nothing materialised with the Eagles standing firm on their valuation of the Ivory Coast international.

You won’t believe which of Liverpool’s Champions League winning side of 2005 is still playing in the video below…

Let’s take a look at how the furious Everton fans on Twitter reacted…

Rangers fans react as Eamonn Brophy is linked to Ibrox

According to TEAMtalk, Kilmarnock striker Eamonn Brophy could be Steven Gerrard’s 11th signing of the summer, and the news hasn’t gone down well with the Ibrox faithful.

The Scotland international has garnered the interest of Gerrard as he looks to put the finishing touches on a strong squad after a busy summer.

It’s no surprise to see the 23-year-old catch the eye of the Gers, as the striker was in top form last season as he earned his first cap for Steve Clarke’s national side in June.

But despite being a big part of the Killie side that finished third in the Premiership last season, the Gers fans don’t want him to make the move to Ibrox any time soon.

With Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe already at the club, Brophy would likely have to be content with a support role under Gerrard, if he were to sign.

Some fans feel this role should be given to their youngster Zak Rudden however, rather than forking out for another forward.

Here’s what they had to say on Twitter about the Brophy links…

Liverpool fans slam Martin Tyler for commentary against Arsenal

[ad_pod ]

There has been no sluggish start to the season for Liverpool this campaign. Instead, they have hit the ground running.

After three games, they are the only side in the Premier League with a 100% record, with the latest win coming against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Reds beat the Gunners 3-1, Mohamed Salah’s second goal of the game being the stand-out moment. He took the ball from just inside the Emirates outfit’s half before calmly slotting past Bernd Leno in the Arsenal net.

Check out fan reaction to Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal in the video below…

Martin Tyler, however, did not seem too impressed, at least in the eyes of many Liverpool fans. He has in the past been accused of not liking the Merseyside club, and even had to come out last year and confirm he is not a Manchester United fan.

The Anfield faithful have been quick to slam Tyler for his commentary of the game, and they have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts. You can see some of the best comments below.

Spurs line up move for Steven Sessegnon

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Fulham defender Steven Sessegnon, the brother of summer signing Ryan, per The Sun.

What’s the word?

The report states that Spurs attempted to sign Steven when they were in negotiations for his brother in the summer, making a £3m bid.

That offer was rejected but The Sun states that Fulham fear Spurs will return with another offer soon.

His twin brother has yet to make his debut for Tottenham due to injuries.

But Steven has already made four appearances for the Cottagers this season and has also been included in the England Under-21 squad for clashes with Turkey and Kosovo.

Dogged determination

Daniel Levy made a deal for Ryan very difficult by attempting to bring in his brother too.

Football FanCast understands that negotiations between the two clubs dragged because of his determination to sign both twins.

Fulham wanted the two deals to be separate and, ironically, the path could now be smoother.

Because they already have one, negotiations are unlikely to be anywhere near as complicated as they look to bring Steven into the club, provided they can agree a fee with the Championship club.

Levy has always been regarded as a master negotiator and it appears that his determination could well pay off.

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk is confused by reports claiming he has signed a new deal

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

The Mirror reported over the weekend that Virgil van Dijk had agreed a new six-year deal with Liverpool, a claim which has since been denied by journalist Paul Gorst.

What’s been happening?

The news that the Dutch skipper had put pen to paper on a new long-term deal was greeted with excitement by many Reds fans on this Twitter thread, and rightly so.

That extension would have guaranteed the defender a role at the club until the age of 34, but it has since been dismissed, with van Dijk said to be confused by the talk suggesting he has signed on once again.

As a result, the 28-year-old will continue on his current deal which expires in 2023, thus securing a long-term stay at Anfield without the £200,000 a week cost that the other contract would have supposedly set the Merseyside outfit back.

That would have been quite an increase on the reported £125,000 a week the Dutchman currently earns, which is arguably quite a bit lower than what a frontrunner for the Ballon d’Or ought to be bringing in.

Should be given new contract

Van Dijk is certainly one of the best defenders around. The fact he was named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year is a testament to that, and as a result the Reds should be doing everything they can to get him to sign a new contract.

He may already be committed to the club for another four years, but a wage hike would reflect his importance to the team and ensure the player’s happiness, thus avoiding a scenario where he requests a move away.

Liverpool are now beginning to move into a position where key players are intent on staying and in some cases perhaps finishing their career at the club, and guaranteeing van Dijk’s future would support that.

The club didn’t spend huge amounts in the summer and that has likely fuelled speculation that new contracts are in the offing, and money could definitely be worse spent than renewing the deals of a few current key players.

Aston Villa fans criticise Jonathan Kodjia after injury update

[ad_pod ]

On Tuesday, Aston Villa boss Dean Smith provided an injury update ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash with West Ham United.

And Smith revealed that Jonathan Kodjia is unlikely to be available to face the Hammers due to a head injury.

The striker – a 2016 arrival from Bristol City – has not been seen in a Villa shirt since picking up an ankle injury against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend of the 2019/20 campaign.

Smith has claimed that Kodjia could have been involved against Crystal Palace before the international break but the club decided not to take a risk.

The Ivory Coast international has now picked up a separate problem, though, which is likely to rule him out of the Premier League clash with Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

And the Villa fans have been on social media reacting to the injury news. Not too many have been kind to Kodjia either as shown by the tweets below:

Liverpool shown exactly why Roberto Firmino must never be dropped

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Off the Bench series, which places in-game managerial decisions and squad selections under FFC’s microscope.

After surprisingly falling behind to a Jetro Willems strike, Liverpool battled back to secure a 3-1 victory over Newcastle and maintain their perfect record in the Premier League.

Snapshot

In the Reds’ first game after the international break, Jurgen Klopp sprung a surprise in his team selection by opting to start Divock Origi ahead of Roberto Firmino.

The German’s thinking may have revolved around him having one eye on the Champions League clash against Napoli on Tuesday night, but the decision back-fired early on. Steve Bruce’s side caught the Reds off guard in the opening few minutes, and duly took the lead through a fine Willems goal.

Sadio Mane then equalised for the home side with an impressive effort of his own, before the true turning point of the game occured. Origi was forced off with just ten minutes remaining in the first-half, and Firmino’s introduction simply turned the game on its head.

Off the bench

The Brazilian is a real live-wire with his movement off the ball and constant pressing of the opposition. His style of play makes him every manager’s dream. And on Saturday, Firmino proved exactly why Klopp simply cannot afford to just leave him on the bench – no matter the policy on rotation.

The Liverpool boss’ initial game-plan saw Origi play from the left, and Mane occupy the middle. Firmino’s introduction however saw normal service resume, and the 27-year-old under-lined why he is such an important cog in the Reds’ attacking machine.

In just over an hour of play, the Brazil international registered four key passes – one of which forced a mistake for Mane’s second goal, and another oozed quality and panache to set up Mohamed Salah’s strike. His tricks and flicks all seemed to come off, and he helped stitch the play together up front. There were a lot more patterns to the Reds’ play, and there seemed to be more cohesion than when Origi was in the side.

If there is one lesson Klopp must take away from the clash at Anfield, it is that Firmino is simply irreplaceable.

Liverpool’s James Milner issues rallying cry after loss to Napoli

Milner hasn’t let his head drop after losing to Napoli. The midfielder has seen this sort of thing before, as he was playing for Manchester City in the 2014/15 campaign when the club failed to win any of their opening four group games and ended up qualifying for the next round in second place.

This type of mental strength and experience could prove invaluable for the Reds as some players could take a serious knock after losing their Champions League opener.

Tottenham fans love Serge Aurier and Tanguy Ndombele’s VAR celebration

[ad_pod ]

It was vital that Tottenham got back to winning ways against Southampton on Saturday.

What should have been a stroll in the park against Colchester on Tuesday night ended up being something of an embarrassment. Spurs were beaten on penalties by the League Two side after failing to score during the initial 90 minutes.

Against the Saints though, they had a better day. Mauricio Pochettino’s men grabbed a 2-1 victory courtesy of goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane in the first half. Danny Ings was the only man able to respond for the visitors.

The celebration for the former was rather funny. Ndombele, along with teammate Serge Aurier – who was later sent off – decided to mock VAR following the strike.

The moment clearly went down well with the north London outfit’s supporters, who enjoyed the light-hearted interaction. They took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith should opt for Kortney Hause at left-back

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Aston Villa’s struggles in the Premier League continued last weekend and their next game comes to a side that sits just one place above them in Norwich City.

For the third time this season, the west Midlands club threw away a game from a winning position as they twice led against Burnley before Sean Dyche’s men fought back to earn a point at Villa Park.

Watch Aston Villa Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

It means that Villa have picked up just five points from a possible 21, currently leaving them in the relegation zone.

Things were made worse on Saturday when Matt Targett, who had only just returned from one injury, picked up another meaning Neil Taylor came back into the side.

On the Chalkboard

Villa’s summer arrival was putting in a decent showing with a WhoScored rating of 7.01, one key pass and one successful tackle.

Taylor, on the other hand, came in and mustered up a 5.94 rating and failed to match the figures of Targett.

It’s not the first time this season that the Welshman has looked particularly poor at left-back, so if the injury sees him out of the Norwich game, it may be wise to play someone else there.

Kortney Hause has struggled for game time since joining the club permanently this summer, only playing in their two Carabao Cup matches.

The centre-back has played on the left before in his career, 32 times according to the games recorded by Transfermarkt, 25 of which have been in the Championship where he’s kept eight clean sheets.

That suggests he’s more than capable at deputising in Targett’s absence – let’s face it he can’t be much worse than Taylor.

The 30-year-old ranks second-bottom in the squad for average rating of any player that has featured in five or more matches this season while five players record more tackles on average per game than he does, which is rather poor for a defender.

With Taylor underperforming, fielding someone else there certainly makes sense. Changing things up could just spark an upturn in fortune for the Villans.
