Keegan Petersen has been ruled out of South Africa’s three-Test tour of Australia because of a hamstring tear.Petersen sustained the injury at the weekend, during the CSA T20 Challenge final, and will need between six and eight weeks to recover. This is the second tour Petersen will miss since making his international debut in 2021; he contracted Covid-19 last year and was left out of the touring party to New Zealand.CSA is also waiting on a medical update on Keshav Maharaj, who suffered a groin injury at the men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Maharaj was unable to run while batting against Netherlands in South Africa’s last match, and will be assessed this week to determine his availability. Selection convener Victor Mpitsang confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that the squad for the Australia series, which starts on December 17, will be announced next week.In Petersen’s place, South Africa have some experienced options to choose from. Rassie van der Dussen, who broke his finger against England in August and missed the World Cup, has recovered and will play red-ball cricket in the lead up to the Tests, while Temba Bavuma, who missed the England series with an elbow injury, is also fit. Given conditions in Australia, they are unlikely to take a clutch of spinners but concerns over Maharaj could see Simon Harmer included. Hurraira scores third ton in four games after Sindh fold for 284

Muhammad Hurraira scored his third hundred in four matches as Northern took command over Sindh in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final on the second day. This one was the most impressive of the lot, with Hurraira unbeaten on 193 off 202 balls by stumps. It meant Northern took a 12-run lead over Sindh, with eight wickets still in the bank. Hurraira’s captain, Umar Amin, composed an unbeaten 79 at a more leisurely pace, and by stumps, the unbroken third-wicket stand had stretched to 269.The day had begun much more auspiciously for Sindh, who added 54 to their overnight score of 230 for 7, thanks to fireworks from No.9 Asif Mehmood and an unbeaten 61 from Fawad Alam. It pushed Sindh’s score up from 151 for 7 to 284 before Aamer Jamal dismissed Nos. 10 and 11.Sindh struck early with the ball twice, a double-strike from Mohammad Umar removing Hasan Raza and Faseeh Rana inside the first ten overs. But that was as good as it would get for Sindh, with Hurraira taking the attack to every bowler, pace and spin alike. Shahnawaz Dahani came in for particular punishment at Hurraira’s hands, particularly as the day drew to a close, as did Mohammad Umar, whose last 17 balls Hurraira plundered 33 runs off. Along the way, he had taken over as the highest run-scorer of this edition of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy edition, a feat he managed last year, too.But the damage had been done through the middle part of the day as Sindh’s bowlers were shut out of any realistic wicket-taking opportunities, with the fields pushed out to prevent run-scoring. But Hurraira, and to a lesser extent, Amin ensured that wouldn’t be possible, and a day that began so brightly for Sindh had darkened considerably as the players were brought off for bad light half an hour before the close.

وتابع: “الزمالك حريص على بقاء الإسماعيلي في مسابقة الدوري الممتاز، في ظل العلاقات التاريخية بين الناديين وجماهيرهما، واستمرار الدراويش في الدوري أمر جيد، ولكن إلغاء الهبوط ليس الحل الأمثل، وماذا إذا تكرر الأمر في الموسم المقبل؟”.

واختتم: “الزمالك كان قد طالب من قبل بتثبيت جدول الدوري، وما حدث في الموسم الحالي من مكتسبات، هي طلبات النادي التي نادى بها الموسم الماضي، ولابد من العمل على تعزيزها في الموسم المقبل”.

According to Graeme Bailey for The Boot Room, Liverpool are now in constant contact to sign Florian Wirtz, who is valued at a hefty £87m by Bayer Leverkusen. They’re not alone in their interest, however, with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal also keen on the attacking midfielder.

A deal will become easier for any of the four interested parties if Xabi Alonso leaves Leverkusen at the end of the campaign, with the Spaniard’s future reportedly playing a large part in Wirtz’s decision. One of the most talented players in Europe, Wirtz could form one of the deals of the summer.

"Incredible" Wirtz would be blockbuster move

Losing any one of Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold would be a major blow this summer. Losing all three at once would be indefensible. But, one way to make up for that in part would be to welcome a player of Wirtz’s quality. Better yet, of course, would be to keep hold of those three players and then add the German to an already-stacked squad.

When the summer arrives, the Reds should go all out for a player who would move straight into Slot’s system as the attacking midfielder in his 4-2-3-1 – perhaps replacing Curtis Jones or Dominik Szoboszlai.

The stats certainly don’t lie and it’s as clear as ever that Wirtz would take Liverpool’s attack to a new level entirely. What’s more, his ability to lead the line, as he has done in a partnership at Leverkusen at times, would also hand Slot an instant boost.

Perth Scorchers have suffered a major blow to their BBL title defence with Australia allrounder Mitchell Marsh and England batter Phil Salt both ruled out of the entire BBL due to injury.Marsh will miss three months of cricket after undergoing keyhole surgery on his troubled left ankle. He has carried the ankle problem for many years and reinjured it during Australia’s ODI series against Zimbabwe in August, which ruled him out for over a month. Ipswich Town have the distraction of the FA Cup to overcome on Monday when facing off against Nottingham Forest, with a surprise win at the City Ground no doubt boosting the Suffolk side’s bruised confidence.

Indeed, last time out in the Premier League saw the Tractor Boys lose dramatically to a Manchester United team reduced to ten men for all of the second half, leaving Kieran McKenna’s men deep in relegation trouble.

His lowly team’s defensive fragilities have been their undoing all campaign long – even when his team have looked competent in forward areas – with January loanee Ben Godfrey failing to add any needed stability when thrown into action at the back.

Of course, it’s not all down to the Atalanta loanee as to why Ipswich have leaked so many goals this season, with the Tractor Boys shipping a concerning 57 strikes.

To add context, only Leicester City and Southampton occupying the bottom two spaces have given up more goals, but Godfrey has been responsible for ten of those hitting the back of the net from his limited game-time.

The ex-Everton defender had a hellish debut back on English shores versus Manchester City, with his relegation-threatened side losing 6-0 to the reigning top-flight champions.

Godfrey would last 64 minutes, but in that time he was on the pitch, he failed to register a single tackle, interception or block, with the Man City attackers surging forward with a certain swagger knowing the 27-year-old was way off the pace.

He was equally run ragged last time out at Portman Road when Ange Postecoglou’s rejuvenated Tottenham Hotspur came to town, with both of Spurs’ opening strikes in the mainly one-sided affair coming from Heung-min Son twisting and turning the ropey number 44 for fun, who only lasted one half of football this time around.

Ipswich must wish they could turn back the clocks to when they had this other loanee in defence, who has since gone on to cement himself as a staunch option for his current club on Europe’s biggest stage.

Ipswich has been home to a number of top loanees over the years, with the likes of Omari Hutchinson calling the club a temporary sanctuary last season, before then penning a permanent deal before the 2024/25 campaign got underway.

The relegation candidates must rue not winning the permanent signature of Cameron Carter-Vickers now, however. Indeed, the defender has gone from strength to strength since exiting Suffolk in 2018 after making 17 appearances in blue.

The USA international would show signs of his class during his brief loan stint at the club – with a respectable five clean sheets picked up in league action – but it’s safe to say he’s transformed into a crucial part of the Celtic jigsaw ever since making the switch to Glasgow from Tottenham.

From 23 league appearances this campaign, Carter-Vickers has helped himself to a hefty 13 clean sheets on top of averaging 5.6 duels won on average per contest.

However, it was in the Champions League against an intimidating Bayern Munich attack that he would win the tag of being the “best centre-back outside of the top five leagues” by the Athletic’s Alex Barker.

Looking at the table above, it’s clear that Carter-Vickers isn’t fazed by the bright lights of the big occasion – unlike Godfrey – with a valiant effort put in by the 27-year-old across both legs, even if Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys did bow out as 3-2 losers on aggregate.

Previously hailed as “brilliant” for his efforts in Scotland by ex-Rangers player Andy Halliday, Ipswich would love to have Carter-Vickers back in his current pomp to shore up their porous defence.

But, they’ll have to make do with what they already have, hopeful that strong performances will come in their battle to beat the drop.
