For the first time since March 2023, Tottenham Hotspur will be playing in the Champions League tonight and looking to kickstart their European campaign with a win.

The Lilywhites enter the clash against Villarreal in excellent form, winning three of the four Premier League games since Thomas Frank took the reins during the off-season.

He will be looking to build on the club’s recent impressive form in Europe, with the side currently on a 20-game unbeaten run at home – dating back to the 7-2 triumph over Maccabi Haifa in October 2020.

Frank’s men are taking on Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side, who, like the Lilywhites, have only lost once to date in 2025/26, with such a defeat coming in the recent clash with Atlético Madrid at the weekend.

However, if the Dane is to extend such an impressive European record against the Yellow Submarine, he may need to drop one player from his starting eleven tonight.

Mohammed Kudus joined Spurs in a £55m transfer from West Ham United this summer, looking to add further quality to the first team’s attacking department.

The Ghanaian made an immediate impact for his new outfit on the opening day of the new campaign, registering two assists in the triumph over Burnley in North London.

However, in the three games since, the 25-year-old has failed to manage a single goal or assist, with the likes of Lucas Bergvall outperforming the right-winger.

Despite his lack of tangible success, he did manage to thrive against his former employers last weekend, notching the most chances created and dribbles completed of any player on the pitch.

It has been an impressive start to life for the Lilywhites for Kudus, but he may be dropped from the side ahead of the meeting with LaLiga side later this evening.

Gareth Bale is a household name to many fans around Europe, which is understandable, given his impressive form for both Spurs and Real Madrid throughout his career.

The Welshman started out as a left-back in the early days of his career, but rapidly transitioned into a winger – especially after his display against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Back in 2010, Bale’s Lilywhites career catapulted into life after he netted a second-half hat-trick at the San Siro – a feat that catapulted him to huge stardom in North London.

His superb display made him a fan-favourite with the fanbase, allowing him to be a consistent figure within the first-team side after a stop-start first few years in the capital.

Such a situation could be repeated by his compatriot Brennan Johnson, with the winger having the ability to replicate his success in this year’s Champions League campaign.

The Welshman, who’s been labelled “phenomenal” by one analyst, has already showcased his talents for the Lilywhites – netting 18 goals in all competitions last campaign, including the winner against Manchester United in the Europa League final.

The 24-year-old has also made an impressive start to the 2025/26 campaign, scoring twice in his first four outings and more than deserving of a start in the Champions League.

Despite his impressive record, he’s followed a similar route to success to his compatriot, struggling to make an immediate impact after his £47.5m transfer from Nottingham Forest.

Johnson was subject to huge abuse 12 months ago, leading to the attacker deactivating his social media accounts, but it’s safe to say he’s silenced his doubters.

However, adding a Champions League goal or two to his record could be the perfect platform to allow him to cement his place in the side and lead Frank’s men to new heights.

Whilst it would be a somewhat harsh decision to drop Kudus from the starting eleven, Johnson is more than deserving of a recall – especially considering his recent goalscoring tally in 2025/26.

If the 24-year-old can match Bale’s feat in Europe’s most competitive competition, he will certainly have the platform to build on and take his career to new heights in North London.

Bavuma was due to join up with the Lions team on Tuesday from Cape Town, but did not arrive in Johannesburg.The Lions found out late on Wednesday that Bavuma would not play the match because of the niggle, which has taken place just over two months before the World Test Championship final in June.ESPNcricinfo has ascertained Bavuma’s injury is on the left elbow – the same one he has injured before. The Lions are unaware at this stage how serious the injury is and were caught off guard by Bavuma’s late withdrawal. On Wednesday morning, Lions captain Dominic Hendricks told the media he was looking forward to playing with Bavuma in the marquee game.Bavuma fractured his left elbow in 2022, which forced him out of South Africa’s tour to England that year and sidelined him for three months. أعرب محمد عبد الجليل، نجم الأهلي والزمالك، عن استيائه من تولي حلمي طولان منصب المدير الفني لمنتخب مصر الثاني وعضوية اللجنة الفنية في اتحاد الكرة.

وقال محمد عبد الجليل في تصريحات عبر برنامج “الكلاسيكو” على قناة “ON E”: “هل تضم اللجنة الفنية لاتحاد الكرة شخصًا لديه خبرة حقيقية في قطاع الناشئين أو عمل سابقًا في هذا المجال؟ دائمًا نجد من يسعى للظهور والأضواء واللقاءات والإعلام، بينما لا نجد من يعمل على الأساس”.

وأضاف:” الدنيا (بهدلة) والله لو كان هذا الاستثمار موجودًا في فترة محمد صلاح ومحمد النني مع المقاولون العرب، لما وصل الثنائي إلى ما وصل إليه في عالم كرة القدم (ولا لعبوا كورة)”.

وأضاف: “الكابتن حلمي طولان وعلي أبو جريشة وعبد الظاهر السقا، ومحمد عمر، جميعهم قامات كبيرة في كرة القدم المصرية، لكن السؤال توليت منصب في اللجنة الفنية لاتحاد الكرة لماذا تطمع في قيادة منتخب مصر المشارك في بطولة كأس العرب؟”.

واستكمل: “هناك العديد من المدربين الأكفاء مثل تامر مصطفى وعلي ماهر ومؤمن سليمان وخالد جلال، لماذا لم يتم منحهم الفرصة؟ وماذا سيحدث إذا فشل المنتخب خلال البطولة؟ من سيتحمل المسؤولية وقتها؟ هل سيحاسب أعضاء اللجنة أنفسهم؟”.

وتابع: “في الظروف الطبيعية، لو لم يكن حلمي طولان ضمن اللجنة الفنية، لكنت أول من يرشحه لتولي قيادة المنتخب الأول، وليس المنتخب الثاني، لكن طالما تولى منصبًا داخل اللجنة، فمن الأفضل أن يبتعد عن تدريب أي منتخب، حتى وإن تعرض لضغوط، ولا مجال لتبرير ذلك بعبارات مثل أنا لا أتقاضى أموالًا”.

واستطرد: “لقد تم تشكيل جهاز فني دخل في خلافات مع المدير الفني للمنتخب الأول قبل انطلاق كأس العالم بأيام قليلة، وكأن الأمر طبيعي، هل رأينا يومًا وليد الركراكي يخرج لتحليل المباريات أو تقديم البرامج أثناء توليه مهامًا فنية؟ لدينا مشاكل كبيرة”.

واسترسل: “أصبح اللاعب المعتزل صحفيًا ومقدم برامج ومحللًا ورئيس مجلس إدارة وعضو اتحاد كرة، بل ومشرفًا على المنتخبات وحتى الحكام أصبح بعضهم إداريين وإعلاميين وتلك موضة جديدة، (خليك في تخصصك)”.

No entanto, essa proposta ainda não chegou na mesa do Huracán, que havia mostrado disposição para negociar nesses termos. A tendência é que ela nem chegue.

Segundo fontes ouvidas pela reportagem, há uma certa preocupação em não errar nessa contratação. Por ser a única e altamente necessária, a intenção é ser o mais preciso possível para evitar que se repita o insucesso da grande maioria dos reforços de 2022. No momento, é bastante provável que o Alviverde feche a janela sem reforçar o elenco para 2023. Sem encontrar o equilíbrio entre custo-benefício e ser ou não um atleta pronto, o clube deverá passar “zerado” neste período de contratações.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, the former midfielder said: “I don’t think he’s been respected the way he should’ve been Kobbie. He’s a young boy, I get that, he’s gone off the boil a little bit, I get that, but he’s flew onto the scene, he’s playing for England – he’s a top, top player.

“Any club would want him, and he’s been brushed to the side. Now his mindset might be – you’re bringing me on in a derby where we’re getting battered and I’m on my own on this football pitch.”

Fernandes has been one of the only shining lights for the Red Devils since Amorim’s arrival, picking up eight goals and 11 assists in the Premier League last season, but the Portugal international is clearly playing out of position.

Nigel Reo-Coker has called into question why everyone else can see the 31-year-old should be playing in attacking midfield role except the United boss, saying: “It is not necessarily Fernandes’ fault and more Ruben Amorim for insisting that he must play in this deeper role where there are clearly flaws and weaknesses.

“We all seem to know he plays as a number 10 other than Amorim.”

Rob Yates scored 86 (151) against the champions’ much-changed team with Ollie Pope, Jamie Smith and Gus Atkinson having departed on England duty.Surrey are also without Dan Worrall whom they decided to spare the hard labour on a pitch which appears so good for batting that the best chance of victory lies in a fourth day run-chase. Warwickshire, meanwhile, are without young seamer Michael Booth who will be sidelined for two to three months by a stress fracture of the fibula. Barbados-born Che Simmons has come into the team for his home championship debut.Against a Surrey attack including debutant Nathan Smith. Warwickshire started serenely in the Second City sunshine as Yates and Alex Davies (45, 58) gathered an untroubled 70 in 19 overs. Davies twice hoisted Jordan Clark for six over the short Hollies Stand boundary but departed in angst after swinging and missing at a full toss from Dan Lawrence.Yates and Latham added 112 before the former departed in a different type of angst to this captain.
