Everton: Dyche Could Now Repeat Toffees’ Moise Kean Mistake At Goodison Park

Everton are interested in a move for Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa, according to reports in Italy.

What's the latest on Joaquin Correa to Everton?

According to reports in Italy (via FC Inter News), both the Toffees and West Ham United have made contact with Correa so far this summer, with the forward and the Inter Milan looking to part ways after an unsuccessful spell.

Correa's current valuation is as low as £17m, as per FootballTransfers, which is a significantly lower price than the €30m (£27m) that Inter paid Lazio for the forward back in July of 2022.

The drop in valuation should help the Argentine's exit this summer, who looks set to leave the club just one year after making his deal permanent.

Linked with a move to the Premier League, it will certainly be interesting to keep an eye on just where Correa ends up this summer.

Should Everton avoid Joaquin Correa?

Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa.

With their Premier League status hanging by a thread in the last two seasons, Everton can ill afford yet another transfer flop, particularly in attack.

Last season, the Toffees spent a staggering €78m (£67m) on reinforcements. And the season before that, they spent close to €40 million (£35m) on adding to supposed quality needed to comfortably survive.

Things were anything but comfortable though, as Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche were forced to keep their sides afloat on the final days of their respective seasons in charge, so the issue hasn't exactly been a lack of funding.

The problem therein lies with the recruitment in the transfer market.

In many ways, moving for Correa – a forward who scored just four goals all of last season – would be a classic Everton move of recent times.

In fact, it would almost mirror their £25.1m deal to sign Moise Kean back in 2019.

The Italian arrived with so much promise, before scoring just four goals in 39 appearances and eventually finding his way back to Juventus.

Those in Italy have not been impressed with the Juventus forward, either, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that Italian newspapers labelled the 23-year-old 'lazy' and 'the worst' back in September as the Serie A side struggled domestically.

Correa's stats are even more damming, however.

At least Kean showed signs of promise prior to his Goodison Park move. Correa, contrastingly, has never looked like bursting into life for Inter.

Statistically speaking, too, when comparing the Argentina international with the former Everton man during his time in England's top flight, it is Correa who comes out the worse player.

During the 2019/20 campaign, Kean had more goal involvements per 90, whilst also enjoying a better take-on success, as per FBref.

Perhaps a killer blow for Dyche, which should end all plans to sign the Inter flop, is his poor aerial duel success.

Last season, the reported transfer target won just 25% of his duels, something that would not bode well in an often scrappy, yet effective, Dyche setup.

The more that it's looked at, the more it seems as though Everton would be better off avoiding a Kean mistake in signing Correa, who writer Jerry Mancini claimed had been "awful this season" before the new campaign gets underway.

Postecoglou Has "Approved" Spurs Swoop For £40m "Magician"

Incoming Tottenham Hotspur boss, Ange Postecoglou could already be eyeing up a first signing of the summer at N17, following an update regarding the club's pursuit of Leicester City star, James Maddison.

What's the latest on Maddison to Tottenham?

According to journalist Sean Walsh, writing on Twitter, the 57-year-old is said to have "approved" of the Lilywhites' pursuit of the England international, with the ex-Celtic man having been named as the new permanent head coach on Tuesday.

In his attached piece for 90min – alongside colleague Graeme Bailey – Walsh adds that the north London outfit are set to rival Newcastle United for the signing of the 26-year-old, with the playmaker in line to leave his current home following the Foxes' recent relegation.

This follows a previous report from The Sun which also claimed that both Spurs and the Magpies are 'pushing hardest' to sign the former Norwich City man ahead of next season, with the two-cap gem set to be available for around £40m with just a year left to run on his existing deal.

Would Maddison be a good signing for Tottenham?

The fleet-footed "magician" – as previously hailed by Statman Dave – would likely prove an astute capture for new man Postecoglou, with the Coventry-born sensation having proven his credentials in the Premier League in recent years, with 75 goals and assists in 163 games in the competition to date.

Despite forming part of a Leicester side that only recently suffered relegation, the £110k-per-week maestro did still enjoy a positive individual campaign after racking up 19 goal involvements in 30 league appearances, with only Harry Kane contributing more goals and assists (33) among the Spurs squad.

Harry Kane and James Maddison

That ability to make a telling impact in the final third could ensure that Maddison proves to be a dream partner to Kane at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next term, with the latter man likely to thrive off such elite service.

Hailed for his "world class" delivery in the past by Three Lions boss, Gareth Southgate, Maddison notably recorded 12 big chances and averaged 2.3 key passes per game in 2022/23 as a marker of his creative prowess, with that illustrating that he can be the man to deliver the goods on a plate for Tottenham's free-scoring, talisman.

Previously hailed as "the best centre-forward in world football" by his England colleague, Kane has been linked with a departure in recent times, although the current suggestion is that the 29-year-old will not be sold this summer, despite having just 12 months to run on his current deal.

As such, the 280-goal marksman would likely thrive off having quality figures around him under Postecoglou next season, such as Maddison, with the latter man clearly an asset who seeks to play forward at every available opportunity as he ranks in the top 15% among his European peers for progressive passes, as per FBref.

With Spurs seemingly "in need of that creativity" – as pundit Noel Whelan previously stated – the signing of the Leicester man could well have Kane licking his lips this summer…

Newcastle Keen On Signing £60m "Monster"

Newcastle United are thought to be one of four sides keen on signing Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic this summer.

What’s the latest Newcastle transfer news?

The Magpies and Eddie Howe appear to be turning their attention to the transfer window after Champions League football was guaranteed earlier in the week against Leicester City.

One player who appears to be of interest is Vlahovic, who was linked with a move to St. James’ Park earlier this month. There was speculation that Vlahovic’s agent approached Newcastle over a move to England, and a fresh update has emerged in the last 48 hours.

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle, and by extension owners PIF, along with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United, are all interested in signing the Serbia international.

Bayern Munich are also named as suitors, with Juventus needing to make one sacrifice over the coming months and Vlahovic is expected to be that man.

Dusan-Vlahovic-Juventus

Who is Dusan Vlahovic?

Vlahovic is 23 years of age and is an out-and-out centre-forward who only joined Juventus last year. Described as “scary” and a “monster” by journalist Carlo Garganese, he has scored 23 goals in 63 appearances with his current employers, previously netting 49 times in 108 games for Fiorentina.

It looks as if an exit is on the cards, and Juventus have even dropped their asking price to €70m (£60m) – a figure which would match the current transfer record at Newcastle for Alexander Isak.

Isak and Callum Wilson have provided the goods in front of goal this season, netting a combined 28 goals in the top flight, with both forwards outperforming Vlahovic when it comes to average match rating, as per WhoScored.

Vlahovic has netted 14 times in 42 appearances during the current campaign, and with the Magpies playing more football next season after their European qualification, bolstering their attacking ranks with someone like Vlahovic could be a shrewd move, especially when you factor in Isak and Wilson’s injury issues this season.

Kevin Pietersen signs up with Dolphins again

Batsman Kevin Pietersen has re-signed with Dolphins for the 2016-17 Ram Slam T20 challenge

Kevin Pietersen will return home, to KwaZulu-Natal, to play for Dolphins in South Africa’s T20 competition in the upcoming season. Pietersen, who was born in the province’s capital Pietermaritzburg, has signed a five-match deal with the franchise, which will see him compete in the second half of the tournament. He will also be available for the knockouts should the team qualify. This will be Pietersen’s second stint with the franchise, after he had contributed significantly to their run to the final last summer. Pietersen made seven appearances for Dolphins and finished as the second-highest run-getter, behind Quinton de Kock, with 401 runs, including two hundreds and two fifties, at an average and strike rate of 80.20 and 172.84 respectively.”I’m as excited as anything to have signed with Dolphins again,” Pietersen said. “I had such a wonderful time with them last season and I really enjoyed the team, the camaraderie and the competition so it was a very easy decision to sign again for this season’s T20 competition. It will be great to getting back onto the cricket field again and I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone in Durban again as well.”Apart from being the highest profile player so far to be part of South Africa’s T20 tournament – which continues to struggle to attract international names due to the declining Rand and the scheduling – Pietersen is one of only two internationals alongside Imran Tahir to be named in Dolphins’ squad for the upcoming season.Dolphins had lost their South African stars David Miller and Kyle Abbott to Knights and Warriors respectively, in an off season, which also included the departure of three other players – Jonathan Vandiar and Daniel Sincuba – the CEO Pete de Wet and coach Lance Klusener. That has left newly-appointed coach Grant Morgan with the task of rebuilding the franchise. Morgan has already worked with Pietersen, during a stint at Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, and hoped Pietersen could make a big impact for Dolphins as well.”I was privileged enough to spend some time with Kevin during my time at Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL back in 2009. Kevin was captain of that side and made an indelible impact on all the players, especially the youngsters,” Morgan said. “He is a world-class player in all formats of the game and in T20 he is no doubt one of the best there has ever been.”

Being fit and on the sidelines can be a little frustrating – Starc

Mitchell Starc has admitted to feeling a little frustrated at having to sit out of matches in the ongoing tri-series in the West Indies, but said he understood that his workload management was important

ESPNcricinfo staff18-Jun-2016Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc has admitted to feeling a little frustrated at having to sit out of matches in the ongoing tri-series in the West Indies, but said he understood that his workload management was important with a busy season ahead.Starc, who made his international return in this series after a long injury lay-off, played only two of Australia’s four matches so far, taking five wickets. He is expected to play against South Africa on Sunday.Khawaja acknowledges team support during Ramadan

Australia batsman Usman Khawaja has acknowledged the support of the team management while he observes the Muslim fasting period of Ramadan. Khawaja told that he had been fasting whenever possible during the series, while managing playing and training.
“It’s been alright. It’s something that I really enjoy doing, but if it’s affecting my cricket or my training in too much of a negative way, then I probably won’t do it,” he said. “It just depends on the situation.
“They don’t force me to do anything. It’s a choice, it’s my personal choice. They know that at the end of the day I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise the team in any way.
“And what I’m doing now, I’ve said to them before that when I fast, I make sure I do everything as well as I can. And if I’m not doing it as well as I can, I will stop doing it and catch it up later on, which is always an option.”

“It’s part of the plan unfortunately,” Starc told . “Being fit this time around and watching from the side can be a little bit frustrating. But I’ve got to look at the bigger picture and there’s a lot to come in the next six months, so I’ll stick by the plan and stick by what the medicos tell me to do. I don’t have too much say in it. I want to play every game.”The bigger picture (is) we have three Tests against Sri Lanka, a one-day series that follows that, a one-day series in South Africa and then we’ve got the home summer. It’s feeling really good, but I’ve just got to manage that at this point in time. That’s for the medicos to do and me to sit back, unfortunately.”Starc said he was accustomed to having the team’s medical staff determine his playing schedule to keep him fit over the course of a season, particularly after his previous struggles with fitness. Starc battled long-term ankle problems and the injury flared up again during the Ashes Test in Cardiff last year. He then underwent surgery on the ankle in December while recovering from a fractured foot he suffered during the Adelaide Test against New Zealand.Australia also have a packed calendar in 2016-17. After the tri-series, they will tour Sri Lanka and then play an ODI series in South Africa. They will host four teams over the home summer – South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka – before ending their season with a tour of India in February-March 2017.”I’m getting used to being told what to do,” Starc said with a smile. “It’d be really nice to play every single game, but the sheer amount of cricket we play these days, if you play every game, you’re going to break down at some point, so you have to be a little bit smarter about it.”At the moment, I’m feeling really good. I’m feeling strong and ready to go at every point. It’s about me getting right for the next game, and if that involves playing, that’s lovely. But if it means I have to rest or sit out here and there, I’ll have to cop that on the chin as well.”It’s about finding that happy medium, where you’re not bowling yourself into the ground and you’re injured every 12 months. But at the same time, you want to keep that rhythm and be fresh enough to play as much as you can.”Starc, who has played 48 ODIs and taken 95 wickets, is within sight of a record. He needs five wickets to become the fastest bowler to 100 ODI wickets, a record currently held by former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, who got to the landmark in 53 matches.Incidentally, Australia have lost both matches in which Starc was rested. With two wins in four matches, they are placed second on the points table, behind South Africa, who lead with 10 points after their two bonus-point victories.

Spurs Could Ditch Porro For £700-p/w Teen

There is no denying that it has not been a happy start to life at Tottenham Hotspur for January arrival, Pedro Porro, with the Spain international – who is set to be snapped up permanently on a £39m deal this summer – having struggled to make his mark in his new surroundings.

While the on-loan Sporting CP ace did help to spark the recent comeback at home to Manchester United with a delightful, volleyed effort, the 23-year-old has come in for notable criticism due to his errant form, with former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood stating the defender "is so bad it’s unbelievable", following his debut outing in the grim loss to Leicester City.

More recently, the former Manchester City man was all at sea in the 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle United, with 90min's Grey Whitebloom awarding him a 1/10 match rating, while stating that the wing-back 'never quite grasped where he was supposed to be on the pitch.'

The two-cap defender was again somewhat culpable during Sunday's last-gasp defeat away to Liverpool, having 'struggled defensively' – according to football.london's Rob Guest – after notably failing to track Curtis Jones at the back post for the game's opener.

Porro's woes have also been laid bare by his grim statistical record as the 5 foot 8 asset has notably been a real liability on the ball after losing possession 15.6 times per game on average from his 11 Premier League appearances, having also been dribbled past 1.8 times per game.

As such, caretaker boss Ryan Mason may need to consider whether it is worth taking the Spaniard out of the firing line over the coming games, with it potentially a chance to give exciting youngster Romaine Mundle a chance to impress in a wing-back berth.

Who is Tottenham's Romaine Mundle?

While more of a forward player by trade, the versatile Mundle has also been deployed in a full-back role or as a wing-back so far this term, notably taking on that latter berth during the mid-season friendly clash with Motherwell back in December.

The 19-year-old clearly "looks a player" – as per MUTV commentator Stewart Gardner during the recent 2-2 draw with Manchester United's U21's – having racked up eight goals and five assists in 32 games across all fronts this season, including 11 goals and assists in just 23 Premier League 2 outings.

That standout form has ensured that there are a "number of Premier League clubs keeping an eye on him" – as per respected insider Alasdair Gold – with just a matter of weeks to run on his existing deal, albeit with talks set to "continue" over a possible extension, according to Gold.

Spurs boss Ryan Mason

Also the subject of interest from clubs in the Bundesliga, the "talented" wide man – as hailed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano – is clearly a potential star of the future, having evidently "impressed" in the youth ranks this term, according to journalist George Sessions.

While a first-team bow has yet to emerge despite regularly featuring in matchday squads in recent weeks, the £700-per-week sensation has impressed against senior opposition in the EFL Trophy earlier in the campaign, notably averaging two key passes per game from his three outings – a better record than what Porro has achieved in the top flight (1.5).

The creative gem could therefore be one player Mason looks to properly integrate over the coming weeks, with changes seemingly needed amid this current run of four league games without a win for the north Londoners.

£60k-p/w Newcastle Star Fit After Injury

Injury expert Ben Dinnery has claimed that Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope should be fit to play in the club's next game.

What's the latest injury news for Newcastle and Nick Pope?

When the international break began and Premier League football was momentarily interrupted, the shot-stopper was initially named in the England squad.

Pope was set to be another option for Gareth Southgate alongside Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale for the Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Italy and Ukraine.

However, the Magpies shot-stopper was forced to withdraw from the Three Lions squad due to a minor issue, which he had played through in the Toon's win over Nottingham Forest just before the break.

As per the latest reports from the Manchester Evening News, the goalkeeper remains a "doubt" for this weekend. However, according to Dinnery, Pope should be able to play against Manchester United.

While speaking on FPL Injuries, he said: "Nick Pope, withdrawn from international duty. That was more of a minor issue so he should be fine."

Is Nick Pope fit?

Pope, who earns a reported £60,000 per week, has been an integral part of Eddie Howe's team since arriving from Burnley in the summer.

Indeed, he has started all but one of the club's league games this term (only missed due to suspension). What's more, no Premier League goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets up to this stage of the season, with Arsenal's Ramsdale also on 12.

Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope celebrating.

It seems his manager is more than appreciative of the goalkeeper, too. Indeed, after Pope starred in a Carabao Cup penalty shootout victory against Crystal Palace – saving efforts from Luka Milivojevic, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Malcolm Ebiowei – Howe showered him with praise.

The Englishman told the press: “I’ve got to say, the first penalty save, I thought, was right out of the top drawer.

“There was actually a save in the first half that again I thought was right out of the top drawer as well, so it wasn’t just in the penalty shootout.

“But he’s been doing that for us all season. He’s a very commanding figure, but he’s kept goal with such low fuss, it sort of goes unnoticed what a difference he’s made.”

Of course, Newcastle went on to make the cup final, but Pope was sadly suspended for that game and could only watch on as Man United claimed a 2-0 win.

Perhaps he'll be able to get some sort of revenge when the two teams meet at St James' Park on Sunday.

O’Hara praises Man City’s Phil Foden

TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has praised Manchester City star Phil Foden, claiming he would be worth £200m in this market.

How has Foden performed for Man City?

The England international has found himself on the bench at times this season, with just 16 of his 24 league appearances coming from the start, but opened the scoring in City’s crucial victory over Newcastle.

The 22-year-old has scored 13 and assisted five times in this campaign, as the Champions attempt to keep pace with league leaders Arsenal, and has earned praise for his level of performance.

Speaking on Sky Sports, O’Hara lauded Foden, claiming that he could be worth double what record signing Jack Grealish is to City.

“Whenever I watch him play, he’s just so good,” he stated.

“We talked about Jack Grealish being a £100m player, but he’s been around for a long time. Phil Foden’s really still a kid, and he’s doing things that I’ve never seen before in a young player.

“He’s born and bred through Manchester City’s Academy, and they have got a £200m player in Phil Foden, and every time I watch him play, I’m just mesmerised. I really am. I don’t think we appreciate how good he is.”

Should Foden be starting more games?

The versatile winger has to compete with Grealish and Riyad Mahrez amongst others for a starting position in City’s large squad, and regular rotation means none are guaranteed starters.

The departures of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus in the summer opened up more potential game time for City’s wingers, but there is a case to be made that Foden should be starting more.

Guardiola has admitted that he is playing Foden less, partially due to the form of Grealish and Mahrez, with the more experienced players performing well.

The Spaniard previously claimed that Foden was “the most talented player” he had ever seen, indicating that he does rate the Englishman highly despite his inconsistent starts, but Foden may have to improve his consistency if he is to become a more regular fixture on the team sheet.
