Revealed: 53% of Man United fans think scoreless draw with Sevilla was a poor result

Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw in their first leg Champions League tie with Sevilla on Wednesday night and it has caused mixed reviews with many involved and those watching the game.

The Red Devils would have been thankful to David De Gea for his incredible performance at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium. The goalkeeper had to make a number of saves, allowing for Jose Mourinho’s side to take a goalless draw back to Old Trafford.

What would have been frustrating for the Red Devils was the lack of chances they created, with five in total, and accordingly working Sevilla shot-stopper Sergio Rico just once.

A line-up that included Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, United would have hoped to make more of an impact at the top of the pitch, but not all considered a draw a bad result.

We asked a number of fans in our poll if they felt the outcome was a good result and the question appears to be splitting fans almost straight down the middle.

53% of voters sided with the idea that they felt it was a bad result for the club, although that could well be down to the lack of performance from Mourinho’s side.

Underrated Henderson shows his worth as Liverpool breeze past Newcastle

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane may have provided both goals in the 2-0 win over Newcastle but in truth, Liverpool’s front three barely exceeded second gear at Anfield on Saturday compared to the impeccable standards they have set themselves this season. Rather, it was the engine room that had a decisive influence on the match.

While Newcastle’s middle foursome settled for simply containing Liverpool as much as possible by clogging up space and cutting out passing lanes, the Reds’ midfield truly imposed themselves on the opposition – providing a platform that the Magpies rarely breached on the counter-attack and that the Reds’ attacks were all spawned from.

That perhaps rings truest with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who burst through from midfield to supply Salah for the opening goal. But the 2-0 affair on Merseyside also highlighted what Jordan Henderson, an underrated and often maligned figure amongst Liverpool supporters despite donning the captain’s armband, truly brings to this side.

The England international’s influence in the holding role can be summarised as winning the ball back and making the right pass forward, but Saturday proved just how important that services is, even if it often comes across as simplistic in nature.

Henderson made the most interceptions and second-most tackles of any Liverpool player, while ranking third for touches of the ball and passes. That latter return of 100 is particularly significant; more than Oxlade-Chamberlain and Emre Can, it was Henderson fizzing balls forward to Liverpool’s attack on Saturday.

It maintained Liverpool’s rhythm and pressure on the opposition in a match where Newcastle tried to slow them down as much as possible, and Reds fans will appreciate how crucial that is for Jurgen Klopp’s side who have often come unstuck in these kinds of games against attritional and pragmatic-minded teams.

The spotlight is rarely placed on deep-lying midfielders, and Henderson’s form hasn’t always been so impressive this season, so perhaps it’s understandable that the 36-cap England man often escapes acknowledgement for what he brings to the team. But there has been plenty of scrutiny of the Liverpool skipper this too this season, so do you think Reds fans have unfairly criticised him throughout 2017/18? Let us know by voting below…

Revealed: 60% of Liverpool fans want Gomez to return against Watford

Trent Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed a tremendously impressive breakthrough season at Liverpool but last weekend, against Manchester United, he received the first proper chasing of his career.

Jose Mourinho had clearly identified him as a weakness in the Reds ranks and ruthlessly set out to exploit him.

Long diagonal kicks from David De Gea were angled towards Liverpool’s right-hand side, Romelu Lukaku had the beating of Dejan Lovren and that left Alexander-Arnold exposed against Marcus Rashford.

England international Rashford took full advantage, scoring two goals that were almost carbon copies and ultimately putting the game beyond Liverpool.

That result put United five points ahead of their bitter rivals but Jurgen Klopp’s men have a chance to cut that deficit to just two against Watford this weekend.

Alexander-Arnold’s Old Trafford performance has given Klopp a selection headache and we asked you whether he should keep the faith or bring in Joe Gomez instead?

The numbers were close but, ultimately, Reds fans want Gomez – who has just been called into the England squad for the forthcoming friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy – to get the nod. Check out the full results of the poll below…

Leeds fans are ecstatic as Hernandez enters contract talks

Leeds fans are absolutely delighted with the news that Pablo Hernandez has started discussions about extending his time at Elland Road.

It’s been a while since we’ve had some good news to share with Leeds fans, but the fact that fan favourite Pablo Hernandez has entered contract negotiations will be music to fans ears.

According to Sportsmail, the winger has started discussions and the club are hopeful he will agree to stay beyond the summer. Manager Paul Heckingbottom is a big fan of Hernandez.

The Spaniard will be 33 by this summer, but is nonetheless one of Leeds’ best players and certainly their most creative outlet.

In a season that has gone from decent to terrible in dramatic fashion, Hernandez has still managed four goals and seven assists despite missing some time through injury.

Liverpool fans excited by Brewster potential

It would be fair to say that the Liverpool fans are excited about the potential of Rhian Brewster, who certainly has the tools to become a future star for the club.

The 18-year-old, who fired England to success at the 2017 Under-17 World Cup, spent six years with Chelsea’s youth system before joining Liverpool in 2014.

The centre-forward is yet to make his first-team bow for the Reds, but has managed five goals and seven assists in 11 Premier League 2 appearances for Liverpool’s Under-23 team during the 2017-18 campaign.

It was actually Brewster’s 18th birthday on Sunday, and Liverpool’s Twitter account retweeted a message from the teenager on Monday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to call Brewster into the first team in the final weeks of the 2017-18 campaign, but the Liverpool fans are hopeful that they will see the forward in action for the Reds, who are currently being strongly linked with Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, next term.

Arsenal fans react as Bellerin shows his love for Ozil

Arsenal’s encounter with Stoke on Sunday was a largely uneventful affair that sparked into life late on which allowed Arsene Wenger’s side to run out 3-0 winners.

A double from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was topped off by a strike from Alexandre Lacazette in front of a quiet, below-capacity Emirates Stadium crowd to push the Potters even closer to Premier League relegation.

In such a quiet game, fans watching were left to focus on the smaller things that occurred to keep themselves entertained and eagle-eyed fans spotted the makings of a dispute between Hector Bellerin and Mesut Ozil.

Bellerin – valued at £36m by Transfermarkt – moved to play down the incident after the match with a tweet that should take all of the sting out of the situation, especially in light of the Gunners’ eventual comfortable victory.

The club’s fans lapped it up ahead of a crucial Europa League clash with CSKA Moscow on Thursday and here’s the best of the reaction…

Revealed: Majority of Man City fans would start Bernardo Silva instead of Sterling vs Spurs

After three successive defeats at the hands of Liverpool and Manchester United, this weekend’s team selection for Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur feels like one of the most important of Pep Guardiola’s time at the Etihad Stadium.

Of course, it’s still pretty much inevitable that City will take this season’s crown barring near enough a pointless run between now and the end of the season, but it also feels like City need to issue a response this weekend – not only to secure the title but also to remind Premier League rivals of the stunning football they’ve played throughout the campaign.

With that in mind, we asked City fans earlier this week who should start on the right wing against Spurs at Wembley, assuming Guardiola will return to his trusted 4-3-3 setup. Raheem Sterling – who Transfermarkt value at £72million – has excelled in the position this season, bagging 21 goals across all competitions, but Bernardo Silva impressed there against Liverpool in midweek as the England international took up a more central role.

And according to our poll, a whopping 76% of City fans would start the 23-year-old ahead of Sterling for the trip to London. How would you line up Guardiola’s side this weekend, City fans? Let us know by commenting below…

Arsenal fans loved Danny Welbeck’s performance against West Ham

Arsenal began their long goodbye to Arsene Wenger with a thumping victory at home to West Ham United on Sunday.

After Friday’s announcement that the long-serving French manager would be departing the Emirates this summer, it’s all set to be a rather emotional few weeks for everyone involved with the club.

That farewell got off to the perfect start against the Hammers after three late goals secured a 4-1 win.

Nacho Monreal opened the scoring shortly after half-time but the home side were pegged back by a Marko Arnautovic equaliser.

However, a three goal blitz in the last eight minutes of the match delighted supporters and has set them up nicely ahead of Thursday’s massive clash with Atletico Madrid.

One player fans were most impressed with was Danny Welbeck, who produced his third impressive performance in as many weeks across the 90 minutes.

Supporters now believe he could play a pivotal role in their bid to win the UEFA Europa League and are delighted he’s again showing some form after a fairly lacklustre season.

Manchester United fans discuss Rashford’s future after poor Friday display

Manchester United were defeated in the English Premier League on Friday night, losing 1-0 away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

While it was a game that has little meaning for the Red Devils, who are likely to finish second in the table, it was a still a frustrating evening for supporters, who are hoping to see continual progress under Jose Mourinho.

The United manager chose to start with an attack that included Marcus Rashford, his first since a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth last month.

The 20-year-old failed to impress throughout, prompting a debate about his future in the first team at Old Trafford.

Some supporters feel he is being mismanaged by Mourinho while other believe a spell out on loan could do him the world of good next season.

With no goals in his last 11 appearances, it’s certainly a situation that needs addressing regardless of the solution.
