Spurs Could Ditch Porro For £700-p/w Teen

There is no denying that it has not been a happy start to life at Tottenham Hotspur for January arrival, Pedro Porro, with the Spain international – who is set to be snapped up permanently on a £39m deal this summer – having struggled to make his mark in his new surroundings.

While the on-loan Sporting CP ace did help to spark the recent comeback at home to Manchester United with a delightful, volleyed effort, the 23-year-old has come in for notable criticism due to his errant form, with former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood stating the defender "is so bad it’s unbelievable", following his debut outing in the grim loss to Leicester City.

More recently, the former Manchester City man was all at sea in the 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle United, with 90min's Grey Whitebloom awarding him a 1/10 match rating, while stating that the wing-back 'never quite grasped where he was supposed to be on the pitch.'

The two-cap defender was again somewhat culpable during Sunday's last-gasp defeat away to Liverpool, having 'struggled defensively' – according to football.london's Rob Guest – after notably failing to track Curtis Jones at the back post for the game's opener.

Porro's woes have also been laid bare by his grim statistical record as the 5 foot 8 asset has notably been a real liability on the ball after losing possession 15.6 times per game on average from his 11 Premier League appearances, having also been dribbled past 1.8 times per game.

As such, caretaker boss Ryan Mason may need to consider whether it is worth taking the Spaniard out of the firing line over the coming games, with it potentially a chance to give exciting youngster Romaine Mundle a chance to impress in a wing-back berth.

Who is Tottenham's Romaine Mundle?

While more of a forward player by trade, the versatile Mundle has also been deployed in a full-back role or as a wing-back so far this term, notably taking on that latter berth during the mid-season friendly clash with Motherwell back in December.

The 19-year-old clearly "looks a player" – as per MUTV commentator Stewart Gardner during the recent 2-2 draw with Manchester United's U21's – having racked up eight goals and five assists in 32 games across all fronts this season, including 11 goals and assists in just 23 Premier League 2 outings.

That standout form has ensured that there are a "number of Premier League clubs keeping an eye on him" – as per respected insider Alasdair Gold – with just a matter of weeks to run on his existing deal, albeit with talks set to "continue" over a possible extension, according to Gold.

Spurs boss Ryan Mason

Also the subject of interest from clubs in the Bundesliga, the "talented" wide man – as hailed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano – is clearly a potential star of the future, having evidently "impressed" in the youth ranks this term, according to journalist George Sessions.

While a first-team bow has yet to emerge despite regularly featuring in matchday squads in recent weeks, the £700-per-week sensation has impressed against senior opposition in the EFL Trophy earlier in the campaign, notably averaging two key passes per game from his three outings – a better record than what Porro has achieved in the top flight (1.5).

The creative gem could therefore be one player Mason looks to properly integrate over the coming weeks, with changes seemingly needed amid this current run of four league games without a win for the north Londoners.

Leeds To Make Bid For "Exceptional Talent"

Leeds United are submitting a bid to bring Hamilton Academical teenager Josh McDonald to Yorkshire, Football Insider report.

What’s the latest Leeds transfer news?

The Whites currently find themselves in a battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League, with Javi Gracia’s side just one point above the drop zone.

However, Leeds are still looking to add to their Thorp Arch pool talent and are set to sign teenage winger Ilias Akhomach from Barcelona this summer.

Another youngster in McDonald, dubbed an “exceptional talent” by coaches, also seems to be on the Elland Road radar, regardless of what division Leeds are in next season.

Football Insider reporter Wayne Veysey shared an update from Leeds in the last 48 hours, revealing that the Whites are submitting an offer for McDonald.

He adds that the club have been in contact with the player and his family and are looking to pip Rangers to the midfielder’s signature.

Bigger problems for Orta and Leeds…

Things haven’t been going to plan for Orta and Leeds ever since they parted ways with Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine’s successor, Jesse Marsch, was sacked back in February and Gracia is looking to pick up the pieces of a squad that was largely assembled by Orta and Marsch.

Leeds supporters turned on the sporting director and the board during the 2-1 defeat to Fulham on Saturday, as reported by Phil Hay. Therefore, you could argue that the Whites have bigger problems to deal with instead of looking to sign a teenager in McDonald.

The Scotland U18 international could well turn out to be a future star, however, Leeds could find themselves back in the Championship if things don’t go to plan in the next six games, which would undo all of the hard work put in by Andrea Radrizzani, Orta and Bielsa to get the Whites back in the Premier League.

It seems as if a move for McDonald will be one to keep an eye on, though, and who knows, the midfielder may well be the next promising gem to come through the Thorp Arch ranks and into the first team over time.

Rio Ferdinand Issues Man United Takeover Message to Glazers

Manchester United's owners have been urged by Rio Ferdinand to improve their communication with the fans amid the ongoing takeover talk.

What's the latest in Man United's potential sale?

Last month, it was reported the club were to receive improved bids from the likes of Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe who were the main two interested parties.

It was also suggested there had been a bid arrive from a Finnish entrepreneur but it's believed he has since withdrawn from the race.

However, progress has seemingly slowed of late with suggestions that the Glazer family, in fact, could look to remain in power at Old Trafford.

Indeed, a report has claimed the American owners are considering the possibility of staying at the club for another decade to increase the return on their original investment.

ESPN have claimed there is a growing confidence between the Glazer brothers that they could potentially double the current return which they could make currently if they were to remain at the club.

And speaking on the Stretford Paddock YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has expressed his concerns and urged the owners to improve their communications with the fans:

(5:00) "I've always said this, if they communicated with the fan base much better, much more clearer, open and transparent. They might have a better reaction from the fans.

"Or at least a bit of back and forth with the fans just to humanise the situation because they're so far removed from the fan base and the fans understanding or knowing where they are with things."

"I would urge them to speak to the fans, man. Or at least put a face to these words."

What could this mean for United's future?

Since Erik ten Hag's arrival at Old Trafford, United have progressed well on the pitch with the Red Devils looking good for a finish inside the top four.

United have already been able to get their hands on the Carabao Cup and the Europa League is still there to play for if they can progress past Sevilla in the second leg.

With this in mind, it does feel as if the club are heading in the right direction with the addition of players like Casemiro playing a big role in that.

Glazer out banner at Old Trafford

However, there will be questions whether United would be able to close the gap on their city rivals with the current ownership at the helm.

Regardless of the opinions on this, an answer does feel like it is needed before the summer transfer window.

If the Glazers are to remain at the helm, then it will be in the interest of all involved that they confirm it over the coming weeks, therefore, plans can be put in place for the summer window.

If this is the case, there may be concerns as to whether United will go after a big-name striker such as Victor Osimhen who is expected to cost over £100m.

And it seems as if Ferdinand does believe the owners could escalate the frustrations of some of the United fans if they were to open up the conversation further.

Newcastle: Magpies keen on Goncalo Inacio

Newcastle United are pushing hard for Goncalo Inacio, who is refusing to sign a new deal that would raise the value of his release clause, according to a report.

What's going on with Goncalo Inacio?

The Sporting CP defender has made an astonishing 47 appearances across all competitions this season – helping his side reach the Europa League quarter-finals in the process – and has a release clause of around £40m in his contract.

Sporting are trying to convince the 21-year-old to sign a new deal with a higher release fee, but he is resisting such a move, and Newcastle are reportedly ready to pounce on the centre-back.

Sport Witness relayed a report from Portuguese outlet Record, which claimed that there is endless "harassment" from Newcastle over the defender, with Eddie Howe's side determined to sign him.

Newcastle have been encouraged by the fact that Sporting need to sell players to boost their finances, while the report also claims that they are looking at midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Do Newcastle need another centre-back?

The Magpies have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season, having conceded 27 goals in 33 games, and main centre-back pair of Sven Botman and Fabian Schar have missed just two games each.

With Jamaal Lascelles and Dan Burn able to deputise, Newcastle's depth in the position is strong, but with most of this main crop ageing, Inacio could be seen as a long-term signing.

As a left-footer, you would imagine the Portugal international would play as a left-centre-back, which is Botman's current speciality, so he may be seen as quality cover for the Dutchman rather than an upgrade given the former Lille defender only joined last summer.

Newcastle arguably need cover in midfield and attacking areas more than they need a centre-back, and have been linked with players such as Romeo Lavia in what could be a big summer of spending.

If they qualify for the Champions League, which will mean they return to Europe for the first time in over ten years, they will likely need a lot more depth to cope with the extra matches, and Inacio may be ideal to help share the heavy fixture load with Botman.

Newcastle may be ready to spend big, with their owners PIF boosting their financial capabilities, and the additional revenue from Champions League qualification could allow them to spend more extravagantly than they have so far.

They will have to move quickly if they intend to activate Inacio's release clause, in case Sporting are able to extend his contract before an offer comes in, and it remains to be seen whether they will prioritise a move for the defender given the current make-up of their squad.

Spurs Could Turn To Outstanding Nagelsmann Alternative

The wait continues to see just who will be named as the permanent successor to Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur, with chairman Daniel Levy still yet to nail down a suitable fit to take on the top job for the long term.

A frustrating campaign for the Lilywhites – which has seen their long-running trophy drought extended – has now become almost farcical amid the uncertainty in the dugout, with the club having only recently taken the decision to sack interim coach, Cristian Stellini.

Quite why the Italian – who had been working as the assistant to his compatriot, Conte – was handed the reins is still something of a head-scratcher, with Levy and co having now been forced to turn to up-and-coming coach, Ryan Mason, to fill the void over the coming games.

While the latter man has admitted that he is "ready" to be the new permanent appointment, the recent speculation would suggest that ex-Bayern Munich boss, Julian Nagelsmann is among the leading candidates for the role.

That being said, however, Football Insider reported last week that the north Londoners are 'not hopeful' of being able to snap up the German visionary, with there a belief among some that the 35-year-old is only using the negotiations as 'leverage' in order to secure a role at one of Europe's elite clubs.

That fact could ensure that Tottenham may need to find a suitable alternative to the one-time RB Leipzig boss, with ESPN having only recently reported that Mainz head coach, Bo Svensson, could be under consideration.

Should Spurs appoint Bo Svensson?

The Danish coach may be an unfamiliar name to most of a Spurs persuasion, although the 43-year-old is seemingly highly respected by those in the game, having been previously described as "outstanding" by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

It was in fact the latter man who took Svensson to Mainz as a player back in 2007, with Klopp commenting that his former asset was a "grenade even then", while also lauding him as a "great, great talent" as a coach.

The reported Spurs target will likely be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of the Anfield icon and ex-Chelsea man, Thomas Tuchel – both of whom began their coaching careers with the Bundesliga side – by making the transition to life in the Premier League from Germany.

Mainz's Bo Svensson

The former FC Liefering coach is already showing signs that he could be able to emulate that stellar duo, having thus far averaged a better points-per-game ratio (1.53) than that of both Klopp (1.51) and Tuchel (1.43) during their respective stints at the club.

Svensson only recently bolstered his reputation even further by leading his current side to a famous, 3-1 win over title hopefuls, Bayern, with that man Tuchel now in charge of the Bavarian giants following Nagelsmann's recent dismissal.

That should indicate that if the latter man is not interested in taking on the vacancy at N17, then Svensson – who has guided Mainz to eighth in the German top flight so far this term – could represent a dream alternative.

ICC planning two Test divisions amid major overhaul

Promotion and relegation could be introduced into Test cricket as early as 2019, if ICC chief executive David Richardson has his way

George Dobell01-Jun-2016Promotion and relegation could be introduced into Test cricket as early as 2019, if ICC chief executive David Richardson has his way. Richardson admitted that Test cricket required added “meaning and context” if it is to survive and revealed that the ICC hopes to unveil plans for the introduction of two divisions and, potentially, a number of new Test nations within the next few weeks.Speaking to promote the 2017 Champions Trophy, Richardson also confirmed an intention to stage an extra World T20 tournament in 2018. The event would, he said, involve “a minimum of 16 teams” and be staged in either South Africa, Sri Lanka or the UAE. The final decision over the event’s go-ahead will be made by the ICC’s broadcasting partner, Star. But it was the plans to reinvigorate Test cricket that were the most eye-catching and radical. Accepting the diminishing returns of current bilateral series, Richardson offered the prospect of Test status to the likes of Nepal, Ireland and Afghanistan, but warned more established nations – notably West Indies – that they could find themselves playing Division Two cricket if they are unable to improve their red-ball form.”There’s a general realisation now that, if we’re going to keep Test cricket going well into the future, we can’t just say it’s going to survive on its own,” Richardson said. “Unless we can give some meaning to these series beyond the rankings and a trophy, then interest in Test cricket will continue to waver. The same applies if we allow uncompetitive Test cricket to take place too often.”If we really want Test cricket to survive, we can’t have the number of Test teams diminishing. We have to create a proper competition structure which provides promotion and relegation and opportunities to get to the top.”A number of member countries are finding that they’re not getting as much from their TV rights for bilateral cricket and they see the need to change and introduce some meaningful context.”The beauty of leagues is that, in theory, you will have a more competitive competition and teams playing each other that are of a more equal standard.”They will all be striving for something. There’s something at stake. They will be thinking ‘We could end up in the Intercontinental Cup if we’re not careful here.’ Hopefully that will inspire performance and make the matches more competitive.”While the details of the plan remain open to debate – Richardson hopes they will be agreed by the end of this month – there is a favoured option, involving the introduction of a top division of seven teams and a second division of five teams. It is likely that the plan would see one team promoted and relegated in each two-year cycle, though it remains possible that a second team could be promoted if the ICC embraced a play-off model with the sixth team in Division One playing the second team in Division Two.Richardson hopes that each qualifying Test series would consist of a minimum of three Tests, though he acknowledged that the growth of domestic T20 leagues might render that impractical. The Ashes series would still consist of five games, with every Test carrying ranking points but the overall number of points in the series not exceeding those available in a three-Test series.”The feeling is that if you want to sustain interest in a competition, you probably can’t go longer than two years with it,” Richardson said. “If you had a top division of seven teams, you’d have six tours – three home, three away – over a two-year period. It works well mathematically.”We could probably make it work in 2019 because hopefully whatever we implement will be better than the current arrangement. It’s the sooner the better as far as we’re concerned. We might need to have some negotiations with broadcasters who have deals in place, but they might be willing to change. This is a marvellous opportunity for the game.”There are two catalysts to the changing mood of an ICC board who, only a few months ago, appeared to have little concern for any interests beyond their own. The first is the election of the new chairman, Shashank Manohar, who seems genuinely committed to growing cricket as a global game and running the ICC as a governing body for the good of all 105 members rather than a favoured few.The second is the diminishing financial value of bilateral series to the Full Member boards, which has allowed Manohar fertile ground on which to plant his ideas. The combination has offered the prospect of unprecedented opportunities for Associate nations in the next few years.Ireland and Afghanistan have ambitions to play Test cricket•ICC/Saleem Sanghati”The new chairman has gone out of his way to reverse the sense that the ‘Big Three’ are in control,” Richardson said. “There is a bigger desire to regard the ICC as an organisation with 105 members, not just 10 Full Members who are a select, secluded club with no one else allowed in. We want to be more encompassing and allow opportunities for Associate Members to graduate.”We have 105 members at the moment and we want 105 members to be able to play T20 internationals. Obviously not all against each other at the same time but everybody should want to play the T20 format and it will appeal to all of our members. Then the better ones, the top 30 to 35, would graduate to the 50-over game and be involved in global competitions catering to approximately that number of teams.”And then Test cricket is towards the other end of the spectrum, where the top 18 teams perhaps are playing a multi-day format of the game, be it the Intercontinental Cup or part of a Test league.”Countries that you never thought would have ambitions to play multi-day cricket actually have got the potential. Countries like Nepal, Afghanistan and Ireland are keen. But Ireland and Nepal aren’t getting any opportunities. Zimbabwe hardly play. West Indies are focusing more on T20 cricket. Creating a competition and a financial model that underpins it, it will allow them the resources to fund a team and provide incentives for their players to be available to play Test cricket for them.”Richardson also suggested that membership rules could be changed, to decouple Test status and Full Membership.”We’re reviewing the criteria for Full Membership, which will enable countries like Ireland and Afghanistan to become Full Members. But we don’t want to link it to Test cricket. The competition structure is set separate to membership status. It’s about voting or funding opportunities.”As the ICC’s original broadcast deal did not include plans for a global tournament in 2018, it will have to gain permission from its broadcast partner, Star, before confirming the World T20 for 2018.”We’re having discussions now with broadcasters about having a second World T20 in a four-year cycle,” Richardson said. “If they agree – and the board agrees – it would be in 2018 and the venue needs to be decided. The broadcasting agreement says we can’t hold another event without them agreeing to it. So they will have a say in where the event will be held.”The broadcasters obviously want the matches to be played at times which are good for the broadcast market in India. But it probably won’t be India as we’ve just been there. And the timing issue rules out West Indies, Australia and New Zealand. We’re currently unable to play in Pakistan, so that leaves Sri Lanka, South Africa or the UAE as the only options probably. It is too early for America.”It also emerged that England, the hosts of the 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2019 World Cup, retain hopes of hosting a possible World T20 in 2022, and the World Cup qualifiers in 2018. Those qualifiers are currently scheduled to be played in Bangladesh but if Bangladesh qualify automatically – they are currently ranked seventh and on target to do so – it is likely the qualifiers would be moved to the country where the main tournament will be played the following year.

Fabrizio Romano Drops Key Liverpool Transfer Update

Alexis Mac Allister and Mason Mount are transfer "priorities" for Liverpool in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Are Liverpool signing midfielders this summer?

Once this season comes to an end, the Reds will put much of their focus on new signings, with midfield additions desperately needed. The likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have really struggled throughout the campaign, and with the likes of Thiago, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones injured too often, it has become clear that two or three new signings are required, in order to turn their fortunes around.

Two players who Liverpool have been continually linked with are Mac Allister and Mount, both of whom are seen as individuals who could provide quality and legs in the middle of the park. The former has shone for Brighton this season, scoring 11 goals, in all competitions, and while the latter has arguably been below-par, he still has five goal contributions (three goals and two assists) in the Premier League.

With each passing week, the more it looks as though the Reds will go all in for the pair, and a new update has now emerged regarding potential moves for them.

Could Liverpool sign Mac Allister and Mount?

Taking to Twitter, Romano dropped a short but key update on the futures of Mac Allister and Mount, saying that Liverpool see both as primary summer transfer targets in the coming months:

"Mac Allister & Mount, priorities."

It is simply imperative that major additions are made to Liverpool's midfield, and in Mac Allister and Mount, the Reds have two potentially strong options to bring in. Both are only 24 years of age, meaning they would likely be coming in ahead of their peak years, and the energy and technical ability they would add could completely transform the Reds as a team.

If Jurgen Klopp can nail that area of the pitch this summer, the rest of the team still generally picks itself – Alisson -Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo are all arguably in Liverpool's strongest XI – so they could be Premier League title challengers again if they can become the force they once were in the middle of the park.

Whether or not Mount signs a new deal at Chelsea remains to be seen, but Mac Allister's exit does look likely, and a switch to Anfield could be a perfect match.

£60k-p/w Man Missing From West Ham Photo Shoot

Insider ExWHUEmployee has revealed that West Ham United stars Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca were not seen in the photo shoot to announce the club's new kit.

What's the latest on West Ham's new kit?

With the season drawing to an end, clubs will already be working hard behind the scenes to prepare for the next campaign.

For many, that will involve drafting up transfer shortlists with key players to target in the summer window. Of course, though, this will also include doing all the media work to promote new kits.

It seems as though that was been a focus at West Ham of late. Indeed, in an update shared on The West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex noted that the club were shooting a promotional video this week.

In his post, he explained how a number of senior men and some former players were spotted on sight, but two names were conspicuous by their absence.

He wrote: "The club spent the day filming the promotional video for the home kit. This was filmed in The Carpenters pub with different West Ham supporters groups including Any Old Irons. There were also some ex players involved in the pub scene and they will be in the background.

"There are bubbles in the fabric of the home shirt too. Like what we have in the century kit in 1995!

"The away kit that is all white has a silver and a claret round neck collar."

Before adding: "The players involved in the photo shoot today were: Bowen, Kehrer, Downes, Johnson, Areola, Cornet and Johnson.

"The Ex players involved we believe were: John Moncur, Martin Allen, George Parris and Alan Taylor. Other first-team players were involved with the photos last week."

Will Rice and Scamacca leave West Ham this summer?

It's perhaps not a massive shock to see Rice absent from the media work. After all, the club seem to have already accepted he will leave and have consequently slapped a huge asking price on his name.

Indeed, as per Sky Sports, the £60k-per-week midfielder will cost £120m – or £100m plus one player in a swap deal – amid interest from Champions League clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca.

It could be more of a shock to note that Scamacca was absent though. He hasn't had the best of debut seasons in England and there has been consequent talk of a summer exit in the press of late.

Still, there is no official guarantee that these two were missing for those reasons but it certainly doesn't seem to bode well for their West Ham futures.
