As the U.S. men's national team aims to win it's fourth-straight CONCACAF Nations League title, manager Mauricio Pochettino has called up 25 players for their two-legged quarterfinal series with Jamaica – headlined by Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Tim Weah but absent Josh Sargent and Folarin Balogun.

Also making the squad from last month were the likes Ricardo Pepi and Joe Scally. One other notable absence is Haji Wright, who played a major role in a Coventry City comeback Saturday but left the match in the 89th minute with what appeared to be an ankle injury.

Players are set to report to camp Sunday and Monday, with the team departing for Jamaica in advance of their for their opening match against the on Thursday.

This will mark Pochettino's first competitive matches in charge of the program after playing two international friendlies in October, a 2-0 win over Panama and a 2-0 loss to Mexico.

Sargent, Balogun and Wright will miss out due to injury, while Gio Reyna and Sergino Dest remain sidelined as well. Despite logging his first start of the season for Bournemouth at the weekend, Tyler Adams misses camp as well. With six key players out of the mix in camp, it will be up to Pochettino to determine how to get the most out of his squad, while deploying an XI with experience and drive to succeed in CONCACAF environments.

Notably, defender Chris Richards was selected despite not playing at the club level for Crystal Palace since Sept. 21 due to injury. The 24-year-old did make the teamsheet in a 2-0 loss to Fulham Saturday, but went unused.

Twenty members of the November camp return from last month's performances under Pochettino, but five newcomers also highlight the squad – Chris Richards, Johnny Cardoso, goalkeeper Diego Kochen and forwards Cade Cowell and Tim Weah, all of whom will have opportunities to make their debut under the Argentine's leadership.

Weah, however, is suspended for the first leg in Jamaica as a part of his red card against Panama in the Group Stage of Copa America 2024.

Jomel Warrican also picked up three wickets for the visitors to help bundle the BCB XI for 160

Mohammad Isam30-Jan-2021West Indians had their best day on the tour on the second day of their three-day warm-up match against the BCB XI. After bowling out the home side for 160 with the help of Rahkeem Cornwall’s five-wicket haul, they proceeded to post 179 for 5 at stumps and took their lead to 276.Nkrumah Bonner, who had a wretched time like the rest of the batsmen during the ODI series, was unbeaten on 80. He struck 12 fours in his 131-ball stay, while John Campbell struck nine fours in his 68 off 98 balls. The pair got together in the first over of their second innings, after Shayne Moseley fell for a duck, and went on to add 130 for the second wicket. Jermaine Blackwood, Kyle Mayers and Kavem Hodge fell cheaply but Bonner has Joshua Da Silva for company when they start the third day.Saif Hassan was a surprise with the ball, picking up 2 for 32, while Khaled Ahmed, Mukidul Islam and Tohwid Hridoy picked up one wicket each.Earlier in the day, offspinner Cornwall took the important wickets of Mohammad Naim and Yasir Ali. His haul also included Akbar Ali and Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Ahmed. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican took out the middle order with his three-wicket haul, removing Shahadat Hossain, captain Nurul Hasan and Hridoy. Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joesph took the other two wickets. The BCB XI’s batting line-up is considerably strong, so the visitors would be pretty happy with their showing. Their batsmen, at least Bonner and Campbell, also have got runs under the belt.

After Yoro: Man Utd ready talks for Euros star who’s better than Mount

Oh to be Mason Mount.

Snapped up by Manchester United from rivals Chelsea last summer on a £55m deal and handed the club's famed number seven shirt, the Englishman went on to endure a miserable debut season at Old Trafford, featuring just 20 times in all competitions amid a string of injury woes.

Subsequently out of the international fold and with no clear role at United amid the emergence of compatriot Kobbie Mainoo, the 25-year-old will have a lot to do in 2024/25 to change the narrative regarding his 'disaster' purchase.

Things may not get any easier for the former Blues star, however, if Erik ten Hag moves to strengthen his midfield ranks even further this summer…

Latest on Man Utd's transfer search

With Joshua Zirkzee already in the door, United have continued their summer squad overhaul with the signing of Lille starlet, Leny Yoro, with it looking as if the Premier League outfit have fended off rival interest from European champions, Real Madrid, for the 18-year-old's signature.

Following that impending deal, Football Italia have reported that the club are set to turn their sights toward another Frenchman, amid claims that United – as well as Liverpool – are in line to hold talks over a deal for ex-Juventus playmaker, Adrien Rabiot.

Adrien Rabiot for France.

The 29-year-old – who was part of France's Euro 2024 squad – has seen his departure from the Old Lady now officially confirmed following the expiry of his contract with the Serie A giants at the end of June.

How Rabiot compares to Mason Mount

There may be a collective sigh among United fans amid this latest link to Rabiot, with rumours having been rife over a possible move for the rangy left-footer back in 2022, only for the deal to collapse due to the player's reported wage demands.

Quite whether anything would be different this time around remains to be seen, although the prospect of snapping up such an experienced figure on a free may prove hard to turn down.

The "extraordinary" talent – as hailed by fellow Frenchman, David Trezeguet – could represent a real threat to any hopes Mount has of cementing a role for himself in the centre of the park, with Rabiot also able to operate in a left-eight role, or just in front of the back four.

The current United man has endured a woeful last two seasons for both the Red Devils and Chelsea after contributing just ten goals and assists in all competitions in that time, with the departing Juve star, meanwhile, racking up 25 goal involvements since the start of 2022/23.

Where Rabiot also excels is in his ability to surge forward from deep when in possession, notably ranking in the top 14% among his European peers for progressive carries per 90, while Mount ranks in just the top 31% in that regard – as per FBref.

The physical presence that the former Paris Saint-Germain man can offer would also prove incredibly valuable, showcased by the fact that the 6 foot 4 ace ranks in the top 11% for aerial duels won per 90, while the man he could replace ranks in just the top 45% for that same metric.

Equally, while Mount was forced to watch on from afar as the Three Lions reached the Euro 2024 showpiece, Rabiot was a central part of an albeit underwhelming Les Bleus squad that made it to yet another major tournament semi-final. The 48-cap international started five games in Germany, notably registering two tackles and interceptions per game, while averaging two key passes per game as an indication of his quality both in and out of possession.

A figure who has regularly performed at the elite level over the last decade or so, the free agent could then represent the final nail in the coffin for Mount's brief United career, with undoubted merit in following up the Yoro coup with this high-profile pursuit.

Lee Carsley left in the dark over FA's plans to hire Thomas Tuchel as interim boss reveals new England manager has not been in touch

England interim boss Lee Carsley has revealed he had no clue the FA were going to hire Thomas Tuchel as Three Lions head coach.

Carsley was appointed as the England interim boss in July after Gareth Southgate stepped down from his post as head coach following the Three Lions' Euro 2024 final loss to Spain in Berlin. Initially the England Under-21 manager, he will now oversee the senior side's last two Nations League group-stage clashes against Greece and the Republic of Ireland before newly appointed boss Tuchel takes over the side on January 1. However, Carsley has revealed that he did not know that Tuchel would be the one to take over from him until the FA's announcement in October, despite the German having signed his contract much earlier.

AdvertisementWHAT CARSLEY SAID

When asked by the media whether he knew about Tuchel having been signed before his side's 2-1 loss to Greece on October 10, Carsley said: "No. I can’t remember to be honest.

"My focus was massively on the games, on the camp. In terms of the timeline, it has been spoken about within the press conference that they [the FA] did. In terms of my position in that I’m really comfortable with the way that it was handled. I didn’t feel undermined or anything like that."

During the press conference, Carsley was also asked if he had been in extended contact with Tuchel ahead of the Nations League clashes. He replied: "No. I think with the press conference they [the FA] had, it was quite clear in terms of the starting date.

"He is fully respectful that I am in charge at the moment. That is the priority. I do not feel hard done by or shunned. If anything I look forward to hopefully create a situation where we can hand over a healthy squad of players to the new coach and his squad."

Carsley did, however, concede he had texted Tuchel to congratulate him on landing the permanent job.

After Bernardo: Celtic could land another exciting signing for £4m

The summer transfer window opened for business in the middle of June and it has taken over a month for Celtic to complete their first signing.

Brendan Rodgers welcomed Finland international Viljami Sinisalo to Parkhead on a permanent move from Aston Villa on Tuesday, to compete for a place between the sticks next season.

The 22-year-old is the first signing of the window and will be looking to fight for a starting spot in goal after Joe Hart retired at the end of last term.

However, he looks set to face competition from 37-year-old Kasper Schmeichel, who is reportedly set to sign a contract until the summer of 2025.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers applauds the fans.

The Scottish Premiership champions are also looking to add to their ranks further up the pitch, as they have been linked with Royal Antwerp forward Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Norwich City centre-forward Adam Idah, and Middlesbrough midfielder Riley McGree, among others.

Celtic's first outfield signing of the summer transfer window, however, looks set to be a central midfielder well-known by the Hoops supporters.

Celtic agree deal to sign midfield maestro

According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, the Scottish giants have reached an agreement with Benfica to sign Paulo Bernardo on a permanent basis.

The reporter claims that the club have agreed an initial fee of £3.5m with the Portuguese side to sign him permanently, after his loan spell at Parkhead during the 2023/24 campaign.

That is £3m cheaper than the £6.5m option they had to sign him as part of that loan move, which shows that the club have worked hard to negotiate a lower fee with Benfica.

However, Joseph adds that Celtic still need to iron out the add-ons with the Liga Portugal giants and then agree personal terms with Bernardo before a deal can be officially confirmed by all parties.

The Sky Sports reporter does reveal, though, that the 22-year-old maestro is 'keen' to rejoin the Scottish side, which suggests that personal terms should not be a massive hurdle for the Hoops to overcome in negotiations.

Therefore, it appears as though Bernardo is now set to become the club's first outfield signing of the transfer window, possibly following on from goalkeepers Sinisalo and Schmeichel, if they can get this deal over the line in the coming days.

It is an exciting piece of business for the Bhoys after the former Portugal U21 international showed plenty of signs of promise during the 2023/24 campaign.

Paulo Bernardo's promising form for Celtic

The young midfielder did not manage to establish himself as a regular starter for Rodgers at Parkhead last season but he did offer glimpses of his potential.

In the Premiership, the Portuguese ace only played 22 matches and started 11 times for the Hoops, as the club won the league title for a third year in succession.

As you can see in the table above, the £3.5m-rated star caught the eye with six direct goal contributions in just 11 starts in the division – more than one every other start on average.

However, he did only create one chance every other game on average and that is something that may need to be improved if the midfielder wants to emerge as a regular starter for Rodgers.

Paulo Bernardo

Bernardo also showcased his defensive work in the Champions League across six appearances in the group stage. He ranked within the top 15% of midfielders for interceptions per 90 (1.44) and the top 7% for blocks per 90 (2.31), which shows that the youngster put his body on the line and read the game well to cut out opposition passes.

These statistics suggest that there is the potential there for him to be moulded into a complete midfielder who can impact games in and out of possession in the years to come, which is why this could be an excellent signing.

Rodgers could now land an exciting signing after bringing Bernardo in on a permanent deal by landing reported transfer target Alvyn Sanches.

Why Celtic should sign Alyvn Sanches

Daily Express journalist Charlie Gordon named Celtic as one of the teams interested in a deal to sign the Lausanne star, alongside Stoke and Coventry from the English Championship, last month.

The reporter added that it would take a fee of £4m – £500k more than the fee agreed for Bernardo – to secure the "highly-rated" 21-year-old starlet's signature.

Brendan Rodgers.

He could be an exciting signing to be the future of the Celtic midfield alongside the potential incoming from Benfica, as Sanches is a talented young whiz with the potential to improve.

At the age of 21, he is a year younger than Bernardo and has plenty of time left ahead of him to develop and grow, which means that the £4m-rated ace would come in as a long-term project for the Hoops.

His performances on the pitch for Laussane in the Super League during the 2023/24 campaign also suggest that he could immediately offer a threat at the top end of the pitch.

As you can see in the table above, Sanches provided plenty of quality in possession from a central midfield position, with five goals and more than one key pass per game on average.

The Swiss maestro, who also completed 86% of his attempted passes, is a reliable passer of the ball who can also offer creativity and a goal threat.

This could make him an exciting partner for Bernardo in the middle of the park for Celtic in the future, as they are both number eight options who can chip in with contributions as scorers and creators of goals.

Contact made: Celtic set for talks to sign "high level" Maeda upgrade

The Hoops are reportedly interested in a deal to sign the impressive winger this summer.

By

Jul 16, 2024

As they are both under the age of 23, they could be the future of Rodgers' midfield and be the long-term successors to the likes of Reo Hatate, Callum McGregor, and Tomoki Iwata, which is why the Hoops should swoop to sign Sanches after landing Bernardo.

Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd also agree deal to sign quick gem with Obi Martin

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign another attacking gem alongside Arsenal’s Chido Obi Martin, Fabrizio Romano reports.

Obi Martin chooses Man Utd over Germany

The Red Devils and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have already made two big-money signings this summer, with Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro arriving from Bologna and Lille respectively. Unfortunately, Yoro has already suffered an injury in a United shirt during a pre-season friendly with Arsenal and is expected to miss three months of action.

It’s not the start he or United would have wanted, but Yoro could be joined by more new signings before the transfer deadline at the end of the month.

Leny Yoro for Man Utd.

One teenage gem who is on course to sign for the Red Devils is Arsenal forward Obi Martin. The 16-year-old is set to leave the Gunners and had proposals from Germany, however, he has been convinced by the project at Old Trafford and has accepted Man Utd’s proposal.

The teenager caught the eye last season, scoring 10 goals in one game for Arsenal in a youth game against Liverpool, and by the looks of things, he will soon be joined by another young attacker who is currently at a Premier League club.

Man Utd agree deal for Crystal Palace gem

Romano took to X on Wednesday, revealing that after Obi Martin, Man Utd have also agreed a deal to sign Samuel Lusale from Crystal Palace.

“After Chido Obi Martin, Man United also agree deal to sign Samuel Lusale from Crystal Palace for the Academy. 16 year old winger set for United move after he turned down scholarship deal at Palace, as @MUFC_Youth reports.”

Previously, it was claimed that a deal was close, but it now looks as if a breakthrough has been made over a move for Lusale.

Personal terms done: Man Utd midfielder agrees £4.5m-a-year deal to leave

He is the latest man to agree terms to leave the Theatre of Dreams.

Lusale is represented by the agency Roc Nation, which was founded by American rapper Jay-Z. On their website for Lusale’s profile, they call the teenager a quick and dynamic winger who is highly regarded in the UK.

“Samuel is a quick, dynamic winger who is regarded as one of the most exciting attacking players in the UK at under-16 level. Comfortable playing off the right or left wing, his electrifying pace and direct running with the ball makes him a constant threat to the opposition defence. He is often the source of goals and assists for his team.”

Palace’s loss could be United’s gain in the long run, and who knows, if things go to plan, we may see Lusale and Obi Martin in attack for the Red Devils on the first-team stage in years to come.

Rajasthan Royals sign Ish Sodhi as team liaison officer for IPL 2021

The New Zealand legspinner had gone unsold at the auction

Ish Sodhi, the New Zealand legspinner, will feature in IPL 2021 in a managerial role. After going unsold at the auction, he has now been signed as the team liaison officer by the Rajasthan Royals, a franchise he played for in 2018 and 2019.In this new role, Sodhi will work closely with Kumar Sangakkara, the team’s new Director of Cricket, and Jake Lush McCrum, the chief operating officer, thereby contributing “both towards cricket and operations vertical”.”The Royals are an innovative, dynamic franchise that plays an entertaining brand of cricket, and I am delighted to rejoin my IPL family to work across the board,” he said in a statement. The role is slightly different from the one he was supposed to play in IPL 2020 – that of a spin consultant and operations executive. However, he couldn’t take up the role because the IPL’s change of schedule from the regular April-May window to mid-September clashed with New Zealand’s domestic season and the birth of his first child.”Last year I expressed my interest in exploring the management side of the franchise, and the Royals management team was very supportive, offering me a role to enable me to begin my off-field journey,” he said. “I’m looking forward to supporting the coaches and the business operations of the team through which I’ll really develop my cricketing and management skills.”In eight games across two seasons for the Royals, Sodhi picked up nine at an economy of 6.69. While he isn’t part of New Zealand’s Test plans now, he’s still on their radar for limited-overs cricket and is currently part of the squad for the five-match T20I series at home against Australia. He’s also active in a few other T20 leagues, particularly in the CPL, where he currently represents St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. Overall, Sodhi has 180 wickets in 166 T20 matches, with a best of 6 for 11 for the Adelaide Strikers against the Sydney Thunder in BBL 2017-18.
