Tottenham: Andre Gomes is the perfect man to replace Mousa Dembele

Clearly, Tottenham need to find a replacement for Mousa Dembele and they might just have found that man in Andre Gomes. If he signs, they’ll be sure to step up their title challenge next season.

The Everton midfielder has been a shining light in a hit-and-miss season for the Toffees since arriving on loan from Barcelona. They’re now proving they’re very capable of beating the top six sides, and Gomes has certainly influenced their ability to go toe-to-toe with the big boys.

Spurs need a Dembele replacement and the likes of Eric Dier and Harry Winks just aren’t the same class as Gomes, who is just 25-years-old. He could fill the gap in midfield quality and stop Spurs from being so open to counter attacks.

He’s a well-rounded central midfielder that has all the qualities to break up play but then start the team’s attacks too. He’s got great vision and that’s exactly what Pochettino will be searching for as they look to turn defence into attack as quickly as possible.

The Portuguese will return to Spain in the summer, but Football Insider believe there are fears on Merseyside that Spurs will blow Everton out of the water and bring him to London rather than back to Merseyside. It’d be a step up that Gomes would surely welcome as he looks to establish himself as one of Europe’s best.

He’s now rated at £25.2m on Transfermarkt and that’d be a bargain if Daniel Levy can secure his signature. His 26 games for Everton should have been enough to convince him the ex-Valencia man is worth way more than that.

Arsenal: Youri Tielemans the perfect profile of transfer target

Arsenal are searching for bargains once again this summer, and Leicester ace Youri Tielemans would fit the bill perfectly, if they can fight off reported interest from Manchester United.

Indeed, the former Anderlecht ace was thought to have been a target for the Gunners over the course of the January transfer window, with El Gol Digital (via Sport Witness’ Naveen Ullal) claiming Unai Emery has requested the midfielder, though HLN recently reported of United’s interest.

The 21-year-old Monaco midfielder is on loan at The King Power Stadium, and – clearly – he’s has been a revelation since Brendan Rodgers took over. He’s notched two goals and three assists since the start of February and his long-range strike against Huddersfield certainly raised eyebrows.

Rodgers has made it clear in press conferences he wants to make the move permanent, but the Telegraph believe it would cost them a club record £40m. That may well be out of Leicester’s reach, but it could be a great long-term buy for Arsenal despite the initial cost.

He’s certainly not a bargain when you look at that figure, but he’s so young that he has the potential to play for the club for the next 10 years. In that case, he looks a bargain, so the Arsenal board need to get a move on.

It’ll be hard to find the cash unless the club let some players go, but they need to decide on who they’re selling quickly so they can start talks with potential summer signings like Tielemans. His high work rate is just what Unai Emery needs in his midfield for his style to work.

With Aaron Ramsey soon departing and Denis Suarez doing a whole lot of nothing since his arrival at the Emirates, moving for the man touted with a move back in January makes total sense.

Of course, Ramsey has impressed throughout his time at the Emirates but Tielemans offers that something special that fans have witnessed on too many occasions in North London.

It’s clear to see the direction this Arsenal team is moving in, and the Belgian would be a perfect fit and a bargain when you take into account the long-term investment. The Arsenal board need to work out a way to finance this move and claim his signature before their rivals do.

Middlesbrough: Tavernier will put spark back into Boro’s season

Tony Pulis has made some bizarre decisions during Boro’s current slump, and has often looked devoid of ideas of how to get back into a game from a losing position.

Strange then, to hear him singing the praises of one of the Teesside club’s rising stars, and lament how he has deserved more playing time and how he will become a Premier League player, yet continuously overlook him game after game.

The player in question, 20-year-old Marcus Tavernier, has all the attributes the side have been lacking in recent weeks.

Speaking to Teesside Live about the player, Pulis said: “If I’ve got a bit of a disappointment it’s that Tav hasn’t had as many games as he deserves.

“He’s going to be a top player. He’ll eventually play in the Premier League.”

He has a creative eye, pace in abundance, and the enthusiasm of youth. All these traits, along with the added incentive of wanting to impress the manager, makes it all the more amazing that the player has managed just a handful of minutes — mainly in cameo roles — since the turn of the year.

In fact, he scored for Boro’ in his last league appearance in which he was given time to influence a game, when he was brought off the bench with 29 minutes remaining against Ipswich in December.

His reward was to remain unused on the bench for the next two games before being left out of the squad completely.

He made no more appearances until February, but, even then, has only been on the pitch for a total of 33 minutes throughout 2019.

It is staggering, in the current woeful form, that Pulis has not given Tavernier a chance, and if he wants things to improve, then he must consider giving the youngster the opportunity he has been patiently waiting for.

If Pulis’ days in the Boro’ hot-seat are numbered, surely he should be at least wanting to try new things that might see Boro’ out of their slump.

The one thing that he would get from playing Tavernier, would be an energetic display, and the youngster would have the full support of the Boro’ fans behind him.

If nothing else, it would show that the manager is trying new ideas to rectify the situation.

As it is, he is often seen to be just plodding along, week after week, seemingly without the nous or ability to do anything different.

Would you give Tavernier a chance in your starting lineup at Bolton tonight, Boro’ fans? Let us know your opinion below…

What Brighton fans are saying about Chris Hughton’s future on North Stand Chat

[ad_pod ]

Brighton and Hove Albion look to be in serious danger of relegation following their humiliating 5-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Saturday, even if they still lie five points above the drop zone.

The Seagulls only have two Premier League wins to their name in 2019 and have now lost four successive matches in all competitions.

The manner of the defeat was particularly disappointing, and the game against 18th-placed Cardiff City at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday night is now crucial to their hopes of staying in the division.

Manager Chris Hughton will inevitably be under some scrutiny following such a poor run of form, even if he did lead the club to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

But what are Brighton fans saying about his future on the popular North Stand Chat forum?

What’s the verdict?

Understandably, a thread appeared soon after the final whistle on Saturday with a poll asking: Hughton In or Out?

After such a heavy defeat you would think that more fans would be leaning towards him going, but it appears to be relatively mixed with the slight majority erring on the side of caution at such a crucial stage of the season.

The supporter above certainly comes under that category, and clearly believes that the 60-year-old has earned the chance to be given time to turn things around.

Not everyone agrees with that sentiment though, with one less impressed fan saying the following…

Who’s right?

It’s a difficult one to call and there is no doubt that even the minds of these fans could change again depending on the result against Neil Warnock’s men.

What is for sure is that the quality of football hasn’t been good enough in recent months, and playing one up top at home is far too negative – failing to score against Southampton or Bournemouth is proof of that.

Beating Cardiff will put Brighton on the verge of survival, but even if they stay up it might not be enough to ensure Hughton keeps his job in the summer if the board want to progress next term.

Stop talking! Manchester United fans aren’t buying Nemanja Matic’s admission

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans have been busy on Twitter discussing Nemanja Matic’s comments following the embarrassing 4-0 loss to Everton, and the majority aren’t falling for what he had to say.

The Serbian international said: “I, the most experienced of all of us, did not play well today. We can’t blame the young players, I was the biggest problem for the team today.”

Who would win out of Man Utd’s treble winners and Man City today? Fans discuss in the video below…

Whilst his honesty is admirable, the United fans have heard enough from their players in recent weeks and seen little change as a result to be interested in handing out any sympathy.

The Old Trafford faithful aren’t interested in words anymore. They are demanding that their players do their talking out on the pitch, something that not one of them did against Everton during Sunday’s humiliation.

Matic, by his own admission, was amongst the worst performers, constantly switching off and allowing Gylfi Sigurdsson to roam free and do whatever he wanted in the No.10 role – it is no surprise that the Icelandic international scored a goal and got an assist.

Whilst no other player has had the courage to take responsibility for their abhorrent showing, the United fans on Twitter haven’t been accepting of Matic’s honesty, not one bit…

Rangers fans react to triple transfer update

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to some transfer news, as Chris Jack of The Evening Times delivered a huge update on three summer targets.

According to The Evening Times, Steven Gerrard still wants to bring Greg Stewart, John Souttar and Jake Hastie to Ibrox this summer.

There have been conflicting reports about the moves particularly when it comes to Hastie, who one day is set to sign on the dotted line and the next day the deal is off if the never-ending rumour mill is to be believed.

According to Jack’s report though, all three are still on Gerrard’s wish-list for the summer.

The report claims Rangers are “closing on” on a move for Stewart, who will be available for free when his contract expires this summer.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

It also states that a move for Hastie could “now be back on the cards”, while Hearts defender Souttar is still a target as well.

Loads of fans have been reacting to the news, and it seems to be a mixed response from the Ibrox faithful. Take a look at the best from Twitter down below…

Disgrace! West Ham fans rage at referee after defeat at Old Trafford

[ad_pod ]

Loads of West Ham fans have been running the rule over their defeat at Manchester United, and they’re all blaming one man for the result.

After a woeful performance against Everton and a fairly underwhelming visit to Chelsea, the Hammers owed their fans a good performance on Saturday evening.

And they arrived at Old Trafford intent on going for three points not just one, dominating periods of the match thanks to great performances from the likes of Declan Rice, Arthur Masuaku and Felipe Anderson.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Anderson thought he had put his side in front too, volleying home from inside the box before being flagged for offside. While it did appear to be the correct call at first, replays showed Diogo Dalot playing the Brazlian onside.

Paul Pogba then put the hosts in front from the spot after a rather dubious decision to award the penalty. Robert Snodgrass fouled Juan Mata, but the Spaniard didn’t even appear to be inside the box when the contact happened.

Pogba got his second of the day late in the second half with another spot kick, and needless to say Hammers fans are not happy with referee Graham Scott.

Celtic fans react as youngsters win Glasgow Cup

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Celtic fans have been reacting to Tuesday night’s dramatic action, as the Bhoys’ youth side overcame Rangers 3-2 in the Glasgow Cup final.

After Rangers beat Celtic 3-2 in the Youth Cup final last weekend, the Hoops returned the favour on Tuesday night by winning the Glasgow Cup.

Both fixtures were a fantastic advert for youth football in Scotland, with some truly wonderful goals scored.

Celtic’s youngsters raced out to an early lead as Jack Aitchison opened the scoring before a superb Mikey Johnston free kick made it 2-0.

The Gers didn’t go away without a fight though. Glenn Middleton responded with a brace, including an absolutely thunderous effort for the equaliser that he fired in off the underside of the cross bar from well outside the box.

Robbie Deas then won it with an equally impressive strike, finding the top corner with just minutes to spare.

Needless to say, fans are enjoying getting one over on their rivals even if it is just a youth game, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Leeds United: Bielsa must consider signing Luca Connell in the summer

What a season it has been to be a young player at Leeds United.

The likes of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton have all been given the opportunity to prove themselves by Marcelo Bielsa, whose trust in the club’s youth academy has been one of the main reasons for why the Whites have been so successful this year.

Whereas other managers in the Championship have opted to ignore their homegrown talent and instead field players with a wealth of experience, the Argentine’s willingness to utilise Leeds’ most exciting prospects could pay a dividend when the transfer window opens in July.

With Elland Road proving to be the perfect destination to start a career for young footballers, it will be of no surprise if the Whites manage to convince Luca Connell to make the switch from Bolton Wanderers this summer.

According to The Sun (as quoted by HITC), Leeds are reportedly eyeing up a move for the 18-year-old who is out of contract with the Trotters in the summer.

Although any move would have to include a compensatory fee due to Connell’s age, the fact that it could cost the Whites as little as £300,000 to secure his services could be a risk worth taking for Bielsa.

A versatile player who can play both as a midfielder and a defender, the Republic of Ireland under-19 international has already made 12 senior appearances for the Trotters and looks set for stardom if he makes the correct choice for his career.

By deciding to leave Bolton, who are preparing for a season in League One after being relegated from the second tier, and moving to Leeds, Connell could develop alongside the likes of Shackleton and Kalvin Phillips and eventually become a hero at Elland Road in the future.

What do you think Whites fans? Should Bielsa consider signing Connell in the Championship? How impressed have you been with the Argentine’s youth policy this season? Let us know below.
